drain race/splash shield

What'a we call this? The water fall, the transmission washing station, rust gate??

With the engine box just sitting on the deck there is no keeping water from draining under it and directly down onto the transmission... A sure case of impending rust and water in the blind engine bilge.

I've fixed this potential problem on several B31s by adding a flange onto the forward edge of the deck, but I want the outboard deck panels to be removable without tearing down the whole cockpit. With just a screwed on flange, that wouldn't be possible since the deck has to be able to slide out from under the engine box after the hinges are un-coupled. And I want a solution that's cosmetically pleasing

So here's my solution-de-jour:
Build a drain race that will be permanently installed between the deck and the deck support system, simply diagramed below:

The following string of images will be self explanatory...

The splash shield will basically just drain out under the deck and at the inboard ends into the main bilge, but away from the engine and outboard shelving. The thickness of the fiberglass layup had to be kept to a bare minimum to keep from causing a forward rise of the deck.

To keep the exposed edge of the shield from being too sharp and flimsy, (and to add a reverse lip), a section of structural fiberglass angle was bonded and glassed on.

More later.........
