Hi,iam thinking of upgrading my B42 to a B50,three cabins,more room etc etc etc,dont get me wrong I love my 42,but ,well you know! anybody had any experience with a 50?

The B50 is a great sled and even better once you get the genset out of the transom bilge and into the engine room. Tom Ward, (Rumrunner), owns one, maybe he'll chime in...

Like Patrick said its a sled especially with the 8v92's.

That boat needs 900 to 1000hp to really perform unless 24 knot cruise is what you want.

24 cruise is more than enough,dear I say it the other boat that I like the look of is a buddy davis 47,i just have trust issues with anything that's not a Bertram, Is there anything else in the 45 to 50 class that I should consider?

The prob is that if you don't go with the 8-92's, I think you're stuck with the MANS, which I would not own. Maybe 12-71's were available too, but I'm not sure.

The older Vikings, especially below 60', are the damned wetest boats afloat... There was a joke going around in the late 90s that all of the Vikings came factory equipped with 2 dive masks and 2 snorkles. They were for the captain and mate, who had to run the boat.

For Vikings prior to 1994, the smallest I'd consider not to be wet is the 58'... The smaller ones will make the B31 seem dry.

There's always the Bertram 46'6"... Many of those were also equipped with the 8V92's...

I piloted a 2000 Bertram 510 actually serial number 001 .the first Bertram under new Ownership . I pick up the boat for new owner in RI and brough her to oakdale Yacth Long Island .been in every nook and cranny of that boat.the owner wanted more speed and it took a few hit and miss with the Mann fuel injection pumps and $40,000 along with those 5 bladed 110% props. Mann engine put out 1125 hp each and propelled her to 36 knots with full pipe welders tuna tower. Unfounatly the owner put in leather couches ,fancy bedding and flat screens ,music and with a end slip with private dock on great South Bay used it as a brothel for three years seducing 100 women instead of offshore fishing.i walk out and he sold the boat.this boat had quite a history ,took on a full bore hurricane off Florida east coast and against my better judgement was caught in 12' to 14' seas off the coast of Atlantic city for no good reason.the lay up and construction was flawless and she had single lever controls both on tower and bridge granite counters and all the luxury ,what shame for a sport fishing boat going from bar to bar for whores.i have some photo's if any body is interested.

Yeah, some of the nicest custom mega sportfishes are nothing more than a platform for coke fueled whorgies… I know many a Capt. that remained in those gigs, against their better judgment & swallowing their pride because the pay was right, until they could take no more. Kinda a shitty situation.

That sums it up buju. He had the five licenses to deal with federal government military bases. Best vocabulary I have ever heard in addition to speak five languages . Women from 25 to fifty and many married. Abused money and the boat ,leave a waitress 100.00 tip and a hour layer he pounding her in the cabin while I read fishing mags on the bridge. Phoenix made quite a bit of money you do what you can do for you children.

I've been on the boat bob is talking about beautiful boat but the cockpit isn't huge. Regardless I have never been interested with boats that have more interior space then cockpit. But she is a beauty.

Pete I almost forgot I gave you a tour. You had to like the Eskimo salt water ice chip maker with a hose directly to the kill box across the cockpit at the transom.triple tournament Rupp riggers tuna door ,latest Furumo Navnet electronics .his targeted species were the models at the conventions instead of bluefin tuna.Amen!

One through to think about. I also pilot a 45' cabo express and a 36' yellowfin center console. The 510 Bertram had 1050 gallon tankage and use 85 gallons a hour with those 10 cylinder mann's screaming at WOT. only to test props and bottom condition. The triple 275 hp veradoes on the 36' yellowfin burned the same as the Bertram!!! At wot. And went thru two power heads on center and starboard engine .All things considered in my humble opinion the cabo is by far the best fishing platform. On occasion I pilot a 40' cabo FBC not even close to the 45' express the 40 is all over the place in rough water ;10 points for hull design!

One of my best friends owns a 2003 45' Viking with twin 800 MAN's. He had an issue with one block.

Otherwise the boat is unbelievable.

Dug sometimes it is inpossible to explain to somebody on what is the better boat. This 2007 45' cabo express has 840 hp mtu's that have been flawless since new. The owner and I went on a ride with the salesman on a new 52' cabo we both agreed " no thank you " I will keep the 45' express . If you are going to own Mann engine I would first sent a "bottle" to Scott from Mann engines in Florida because he the only guy in America whom can sent up the fuel injection pumps and I say that with a money no object anywhere in the USA.
