Cummins 250hp gauges

I am thinking about replacing my original Cummins gauge panels, either with better Cummins panels or individual gauges. So what would you guys recommend?
Do any of you have decent Cummins panels that you are not using and would like to sell?
If you were to replace the gauges, what brand would you use?

The original plastic Cummins panels that came with my engines in 1991 got eaten up by the sun and one of the Faithful gave me a pair he had taken the gauges out of to mount them individually, so I just took the gauges out of the old crappy ones and re mounted. Big job tho, not near as easy as it sounds. I had a Stamoid fabric cover for the panels made that snaps over the steering wheel and panels to keep the sun off so the "new" panels will stay new......

There was an outift that used to have a booth at the FLL boat show that ad panels, both stock & custom and they quoted me to coustom make two new, mostly original layout panels, but it was a bunch of money as I recall.

I have the VDO gagues and they seem to be good.

The guy I bought my Cummins from kept the original Cummins gauges to use with his new yanmars. Don't ask.
Anyway I used VDO Oceans. Look good and perform like the Cummins. Endlessly.

Mikey - slick. Are those single lever controls? If so, what brand & how do you like them? I have the double lever and one side works pretty good but the other is jerky. As you may recall, both of my controls (one for gears and the other for the throttles) are mounted on the stb. side of the wheel and penels, the compass is on the port side, so I have limited room to use the larger Morse controls....my handles are too short and I'ver added the little one inch threaded extensions to the gear levers and that helped some, but I feel like a shift or throttle cable could snap every time I use the boat.....have done that in the past resulting in tangle with large oil rig (rig won) resulting in nice up sweep in the bow rail.

Anyway, I crave shifts and throttles on ball bearings smooth. Y'all gimme some ideas.

We had a huge time in Miami Beach, temps in the 80s for a week, lots of great food and I got cultured to within an inch of my life. Gonna tame some time to recover....raining and cold here now.

UV -- As you might recall, Tailhook had Morse Single Levers -- in order to shift easily and not hit the steering wheel, they were mounted with the curve of the arm facing outward. Although it didn't look as pretty as it would have with the curve facing the wheel, it functioned much better.

They are Kobelt and, yes, I love them. Very slick. I added new cables as well. Originals were Morse and can't figure out why they stays in business. After all of these years they still sell chrome-plated pot metal for boat in salt water. In no time they look like crap and are hard to push.
These Kobelt are all stainless, bronze and brass. Very comfortable in hand and the center comes off easily for adjustment and lube. They fit in the same hole as the old Morse. Easy switch.

smart choice mikey i could not agree more on your opinion of the Morse products .find for a bubble boat but not a 31 bertram masterpiece that will live hundred years!

Thankis Mikey. To confirm, they are single lever, right, both shift & throttle in one lever? And how do you disengage the shifts to run the motors up in neutral? Pull the lever out? Push a button?

Got a model # for them so I can look 'em up? I plan to go with the super duper cables too.

U.V. Here's the scoop. First, I had to dig back into the file with every receipt for everything I have bought for Dreamsicle since the dawn of time. Damn, what a pile. Knew I'd spent a bunch but that brings it all into vivid focus. Good thing I love that Bertram. Still can get out what I put in if I sell, I think. Maybe wishful thinking. On with the game.
Yes, it is single lever. Pull them away from the body for neutral acceleration. Easy, Peasy, Japanesie. The model is 2047 KY. These two suffixes to denote some detail which you will discover. K - Chrome-plated handles & dome. Y - denotes T handle. Website is www.kobelt.com. It has improved greatly since my purchase including their own cables. I misspoke in my first post. Chrome-plated bronze not S/S exterior. Still much better than pot metal!

A Topaz Royale I ran a couple of times has the Kobelt controls -- wonderful controls -- however, these were electronic, not mechanical -- I'm more of a mechanical push, click, thump kind of guy -- no feel to them -- my 2 cents!

Peter ,

I took apart the old dash , had the down part recromed , and spraypainted the inlay with silver and finished with 6 coats of clear varnish.

Put new gauges in as you can see and new " FIRE" buttons..
