Grandfathers and Grandsons
Just thought I'd send this along.
Many people unfortunately were born after our own Grandpas had passed on and never had the opportunity to enjoy moments like this. The grandson writes...
My long-passed grandfather's birthday is coming up and for me it is a
time to reminisce. We used to take long walks and drives together. He
would make special trips to pick me up so I could spend weekends with
him.
I was young when he died. If he were living today and sharing his pearls
of wisdom, I'd be a better man. Those gems were all well and good, but
the one I remember best came from him when I was only 12.
We were sitting in a park, watching children with their mothers enjoying
a beautiful spring day. He told me that one day, I'd find a woman and
start my own family. Then came the jewel in the crown of grandfatherly
advice when he said, "And be sure you marry a woman with small hands."
"Why should I do that, Grandpa?" I asked.
"Because", he answered, "It makes your pecker look bigger."
Kinda brings a tear to your eye, doesn't

Great post! Thank you, my son-in-law will appreciate it!
As a grandfather on a 7 year old boy who I see every chance I get, I savor the moments he and I spend together, one on one. We talk about everything.. he asks questions, I try to answer him in terms he will understand. The opportunity I have to shape a young mind is both a great responsibility and joy. Last week he saw for the first time the 1983 Bertram 33 flybridge cruiser I bought several months ago, but just brought home. He blasted through every cabin, locker, nook and cranny, opening everything and asking questions. Up on the flybridge testing the seats, into the fwd cabin bouncing on the vee berths, up to the bow looking over into the water.. he was everywhere.
As we were walking away from the boat I asked him what he thought of it.. he said it was "awesome".. but then he added that there was one problem. This puzzled me, so I asked what? His answer.. he needs a ladder to get into the upper bunk in the midship cabin.
I have already started building one!

My grandfather was special to me and I to him. He taught me to surf fish in Northwest Florida in the Gulf of Mexico as well as Bream fishing in creeks near Pensacola. He was full of advice that I did not want to agree with as a child but ................the old man was right.
I was 35 when he died and fortunately I was able to spend many years with him. He taught me to swim at the YMCA in Pensacola.
As life comes full circle I now have 4 grandchildren, 3 boys and one precious little girl. These guys are as special to me as my own children are and I love them dearly.
I like my grandfather taught Alan, my oldest grandchild to swim. When Alan was 4 I had him snorkleing with the Manatees at Crystal River Florida.
Christmas day I spent the day riding dirt bikes with Alan (11) and Ben (6) The next morning they called my house to ask Jo Ann if PawPaw could come out and ride again.
Times like these are extremely special to me and the "Gandfather" post really hit a nerve. I'll have to tip them off about the little hands.........Ha
