Cockpit panel material

Capt. Pat, what is the material to use in replacing the stern cockpit panel?
I measure 1/4" thickness. Thanks

alot of people use pvc foam board.i used 1/4'' underlayment.rolled at least 5 coats of thinned west on both side and ends totally sautrated it . then sanded smooth..primed and painted. the old one were 30 years old figured that was good for me ...

I'm having a friend make panels out of fiberglass. I'll take the 48x60 piece and cut to size. Thickness can be 3/16 to 1/4". I hope to put them in tomorrow, should be 60 deg. in my area.

I had a friend from Hatteras make mine. We usedd 1/4 Strata board and covered both sides with Wilson Art Formica. They were light and strong enough and won't rot. You can get the Strata at GE Plastic supply. Some just use the strata board by itself.

Using fiberglass was a great decision, the job turned out perfect and i don't have to do any painting.

I had mine made of gel coated 3/8" core mat with chop strand fiberglass, easy to keep clean. Just remember that the transom panel is about 102" wide, one piece no seams, side panels are just under 98" depending on engine box lenghts. Measure twice and then cut!

Where do you buy fiberglass board that they don't bend you over and drive you home?

I just bought some sintra from the local plastics house. Admittedly, what was suggersted to be "slight pressure," was in fact screaming pain as I was fisted.
