316 = bahia mar (ok I cheated and knew the answer)
757 .... a 1967 or 1968 ?
Mikey
hull #327 a 1963 .... not crazy
Clearly, the numbering to be used for 20 yrs was not thought out on day one !!

charlie ...
you have hull #757.
by that time, it seems the numbering got better.
my 1970 hull is marked
316-1007
316 is Bahia ... we know that
Once they got the numbering together with the 31#-#### format, you can almost just go to the first digit after the "-" 7xx approx 1967 7=7approx
1969 is probably gonna be high 8xx or 9xx .... seems like its falling out that way. Just checked ... Coolair is a 1969 and is #854
My 1970 is one of the first with 4 digits after the "-"
I would guess 31X-12xx would be a 1972 approx

Charlie ... I figured it was approximate 67 or 68 based upon the number. I doubt they made the exact same number every year. I think rule of thumb is approx 100 a yr., but they probably made 75 some years and 125 others. The numbers just "kinda get you there".
I wonder what the first boat was that got it stamped on the outside of the transom. I'm not sure when that became USCG law.

Bob .... no 1992s were made.
I gotta think its a 1972 or 1973 ... maybe early 1974.
Do you know when USCG started the starboard side transom stamping mandate ?
Once the outside transom numbers started, the year had to be in the number stamp, so I would think that the format changed some.
Whats your hull # .... c'mon put it out there

oakdale long island ny/oakdale yacth club . crazy my serial # was in six places as i rip down the boat . the bottom side of the galley sink vanity , a small piece that use to sit over the port side locker, on the frame of the old head vanity i removed, in pencil under forward solon seat also someones name as a signature . on the inside starboard side of the transum .the first owner of the boat according to CC document research was on a piece in black crayon . which lead me to believe the boat was made for him . he also past down the original bertram owners manual fill with all kinds of paperwork.

Charlie and Bertramp,
Based on mine which is registered as a 1968 hull# 316-664 (I found the #664 written inside the port engine box), I would say that hull #757 is not a 67, but at least a 68. I wish mine was #757, I fly Boeing 757s for a living. Want to trade? :-D

Just get a black magic marker and scrawl 316-757 in a few places around the boat. That's all Bertram did, and it'll be cheaper than a trade--save you sales tax, shipping fees, survey costs, etc.Craig G wrote:Charlie and Bertramp,

Bertramp,
Supposedly a while back when I had talk to Richard Kidd and he told me that hull #605 was the 105th B31 Fly Bridge Crusier that was made. It doesn't mean it was the 605th hull made from what I undersatnd.
Pete,
Any thoughts from you on this statement. I hope this is the last for ya on all these knee surgery's.

Bertramp,DQ ...
I think you are the 605th hull made and it was 1967.

Tommy, Bertramp, DQ and the rest of the faithful,
My knee is doing better, still going to PT and doctor, Capt Pat measured my leg for a real teak peg leg last weekend. If this knee don't work it's going to a epoxy teak unit.
Bertramp it was real nice to meet you last weekend, I hope that the numbers I posted cleared up some timeline questions on year of our boats.
DQ, from my records hull 605 should be a late 1966 or early 1967 model year, the only real way of verifying the number is from the glassed in paper tag in the port V berth or on the inner transom on the centerline under the aft cockpit sole support shelf or on the outter transom.
Models of the boats were 314 for open sport fish, 315 for enclosed bulkhead fly bridge cruisers and so forth. Most of the assembly line workers at Bertram were not highly educated and used parts from other boats in the woodworking shop, if it fit it didn't realed matter what number was written on it. This discussion can drag on forever but it keeps us together. Pete

I'm glad to see more guys coming onboard with their hull numbers. Great idea Steve. Harry, where exactly did you find that tag glassed in your hull. All I've been able to come up with is the # 664 written with magic marker on the top inside of my port engine box. It is registered as a 1968, so it would have to be a very early 1968, or might really be a 1967. Any more hull numbers hiding out there?
Thanks,
Craig

I have a commercial Whaler (great boat) they do some extra laminate and finish in a flat grey.
In Whalers ... "if you go grey, you'll never go back" !!

opunui the change in the layup was not for the hell of it. the police requested a step down with three large steps so they could board a boat on the high seas so bertram increased the thickness of transom to support steps.. sides have big bumpers to go along side a another boat and the bumpers are thru bolted so they increased the thickness off hull sides on point to note the M boats did not have rod holders on gunnels off course so when they were sold down the road you can see gunnel rod holders cut in .the military mounted a 30cal. machine gun on port and starboard side of overhang so you can see that part was heavy layup with filled in bolt holes.the deck up forward is 11/4" thick for same reason .
