window frames

i just had some new window frames made for all the windows for the aft cabin made out of japanesse mahogany. do i need to seal them with thinned west or just spray several thinned coats of primmer on them so it soaks and seal -em real good ???

Phil,

Don't use epoxy on mahogany, it'll darken it to almost black... Use an oil base sanding sealer then a good varnish.

i am going to paint - em i just want to seal - em the right way . i know that kinda of wood is hard ,didn't know if i need to just prime and paint or west then prime -paint

Phil,

If you're painting, then go ahead with the epoxy. If you haven't already installed them, epoxy all surfaces, including the backs. First coat will be thinned with denatured alcohol, (after mixing the catalyst), for penetration. Then 2 coats of un-thinned. Allow 3 days for cure, sand without breaking through to bare wood, wash with soap & water, dry, prime & paint.
