Hydraulic steering system question

Post by kurekke »

I own a 1981 31' Bertram. The hydraulic steering system has a leak in the ram cylinder. The steering system was manufactured by Hynautic. I'm aware that Hynautic was bought out by Teleflex. I can't identify the model number(not readable) on the cylinder. Does anyone know what model # was installed by Bertram in 1981 31' or where I can get this information? Once I have this information I'll be able to get a seal kit and repair the leak.

Thanks,
Ken

Bertram could have put any number of cylinder models in...

Charmin Enterprises is the Go To Place for rebuilding anything Teleflex. Best to send it to them, (after calling first), and let them rebuild your cylinder. They have pretty fast turn around times.

Not that anything Captain Patrick says needs additional endorsement, but Charmin did a fine job for me on an even older system. Mine was done about 5 years ago and is A-OK today. Send it to them for the rebuild and save yourself a lot of upset.

They are the best. I found them through the site after a week of trying to get someone from Teleflex to answer my calls (Long Distance to Canada). Charman has an 800 number. 800-247-6324
As I understand it, they are now also the place for Morse Control parts. Walter

My Bertram 28 had the K19 RAM ... It was easier to read the stamped on number once I pulled the ram off - I sent the 3 hydraulic steering system parts to Charman ... they rebuilt the helm ... the K19 Ram was beyond repair so I replaced with new ... the reservoir with check valves is no longer made and no parts so if there is a problem they just replace a new different model.
