Afternoon Gents,
New to posting here but been lurking for quite some time. I installed two new Yanmar 315s in my 29 Blackfin FB last spring and would like to know more about Corrosion X for preventing rust and oxidation on the motors and gears. I've noticed that in the first year of use, the slightest of scratches will cause aluminum oxidation and on the ZF220a gears it seems that rust wants to come through the paint. Can you recommend some protection to keep my investment (?) nice and shiny? I've used CRC but it sounds like you really like CX. Also, where is the best place to buy?

So it sounds like you purchase the CX is a bottle or jug rather than spray? It would seem that a spray would get into hard to access spots easier? Could you put it in a pump spray bottle? Thx again.

Last questions....Do you recommend the CX regular or heavy duty? Is it best to just buy on line?

Get some bulk CX, mix it 50/50 with lacquer thinner in a trigger spray bottle. The thinner flashes off very quickly,but allows the CX to flow more easily and cover more completely. The resulting coating of
CX is more even, and less gunky. My current set of engines are 11
years old now and don't have a spot of rust on them. I only spray
them every 2-3 years.

Trey-How the Hell are you? With no intentions to hijack the thread, I JUST lost the "Elect Trey Dibrell" comb you gave me that I've been carrying around since my first Port Eads UVI. My wife couldn't understand why I was so upset since I have very little hair on my head to comb anyway, and I told her..."for sentimental reasons". You just can't explain a Port Eads UVI. Charlie - I quit selling it mail order after I retired as the shipping was too much trouble. There are some places online that discount it.
Da Judge's formula of 50/50 regular CX with lacquer thinner is the way to go for coating the engines and gears. Avoid spraying it on LCD displays as the stuff is so creepy it will get between the glass and the media and ruin the display.

I know this has been discussed before, but just to be overly safe, when I spray the lacquer thinner /CX mixture I take precautions to ensure there is good ventilation so no heavy concentrations of flammable vapors can collect. Having worked most of my career in chemical labs and plants, I am probably overly cautious about the health and safety aspects of petrochemical/air mixtures.

UV how is retired life? With the market where it is I may never be able to call it quits. I was looking at the Maddoff case this morning and was thinking what you liked to with crooked bankers and tax cheats. Were is UV when we need him?? Sitting on the porch drinking clears and eating raw ones. Damn just does not get any better.
