Bought another boat (not, unfortunately, a Bertram)
Well, I've been looking, and found a boat I couldn't resist. The criteria?
Trailerable, single engine, economical diesel (single), small enough to singlehand (capt gets charter fee AND tip), last but not least, INEXPENSIVE!
The B28 has a bridge, I needed an express. The B25 was a little too small and has two engines.
I ended up buying an older 26' Ridgeway. 3208 Cat (turbo) with 1100 hours. Sent oil and transmission samples, they checked out perfectly. 12' beam!! Capt. patrick may have seen a few of these down in Florida, thewy were built as pocket saifish tournament sportfishermen.
So, next year I will be back in the charter biz as Captain. Hopefully, I'll make a few more bucks than I did as mate this past summer.
BTW, the boat has a tower, and it is for sale, CHEAP. Full towere with controls, top, etc. Older, but perfectly serviceable. If it sells here, I will donate $100 to the site.
Anyhow, just checking in with the news!

John,
Yes, I first saw it on Ebay. Those photos didn't make the boat look all that good. I ran into the owner one day after we had exchanged emails. He said he was buying a new boat and would sell it now for half. I offered him twenty per cent less than that. After much anguish (don't I know how that feels!) he accepted the offer. At last, I come up on the winning side of the "gotta sell it NOW" equation. Let's just say it's a great time to buy a boat.
I plan on removing the tower, building an open-sided wheelhouse, removing the leaning post and cutting down the engine box (to open the boat up and for seating, moving the steering station to forward starboard, and Awlgripping the wholw thing, inside & out.
This boat, while not a Bertram, is the biggest 26' boat I have ever seen..... bigger than a Lema Bonito 26. Anyhow, I sure wish I was computer-literate enough to post some photos.....

Steve,
12 beam...that's impressive. I dig fat boats, but i don't see you trailering 12 ft very often. I would like some pics if it's no trouble.
Send to: scot@cssims.com
thanks
