Hi,
I am new to the board. I just got my dream boat. A 31bert.
I would like to re-insulate to engine box covers. The exsisting stuff looks black and does not insulate the sound of the cummins diesels very well.
The boat is a 1974 flybridge crusier.

Hi Pete,
Congratulations on getting your 31, the guys here all seem to like Soundown...no doubt they will chime in or you can have a look at:

Soundproofing is certainly one area where investment makes a lot of sense.

Pete,
Just did mine with two-inch Soundown to muffle those big Cummins. Wow, it's quiet as a library now.
Well, at least a library in a subway station.

Besides insulation there are other things to consider when trying to quiet a Bertram. How the engines get combustion air is a major consideration as vents in the box or cockpit just invite the engine room into the boat.
One thing important to know is that the proper insulation will be heavy. you can't get quiet without spending some weight.
Happy to talk with you about it, feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to discuss options.
