steyr repower
preliminary measurements of engine box on my b28 give me 49 inches fore to aft. the specs i have on the steyr mo256 show 41 inches in length but that is apparently without transmission. wondering if anyone knows how much longer the unit would be with the zf 63 gear box attached. also, does the prop end of the gear protrude through the aft bulkhead?
Matt,
Here's a pic with the dimensions:
L1=10.43
L2=2.56
L3=.43
L=12.68
H1=3.23
H2=11.18
A=5.67
Coupling does not protrude thru the bulkhead due to the down angle but the ass end of the gear box can.
Front of engine to gear coupling would be 46.10"
Front of engine to farthest back on the gear box is 50.48"
Top of the engine to the centerline of the coupling is 26.38".

Don't forget to allow for the foam-factor ;)
I haven't weighed mine, but my 1/2 ton truck knows it's back there.
On another Steyr repower topic. How do you think a pair of 300's would work in a B35? General thinking is the B35 needs at least 350 diesel hp to bring it closer to todays standard of performance. But a light weight 300 diesel should provide a solid 21-23kt cruise and about 27+ on the top end. Also, I could keep my 1-3/8 in shafts according to the high-speed discussion of earlier.

Bruce, re:"Gator Season now open" Need one trapper /hunter for my canal system . Apparently in there crusing having no fear of humans and getting rid of parrasites in the salt water. 5 1/2 footer but brave. I can sure do without those, canal rats and venomous snakes. Had an 8 foot rat snake sun bathing on my bow last summer! Sorry he was history.....There buying up the permits like crazy for gator hunting.
On the Steyr's. John from Bonita was looking at one in Naples the other day and says you could not even hear it running. As quiet as a new gas engine. He did a beautiful job on his 250 gallon new fiberglass tank made from Vinylester resin. Did it himself with supervision from his glassman. Excellant work. Dave K
