Whats the best approach to Sailers Haven

So the plan is to head out and stay a couple nights at Sailors Haven next week. Looking at the chart all I see is...NOPE, not that way, water is TOO skinny. I'm not fond of water less then 8-10' unless I am in a channel or know the waters.

Unless a better option is presented, the plan is from the inlet to East Channel past Ocean beach and continue a mile or so out towards Long Island just past the Green "27" can, then Head South to the entrance channel to Sailors Haven. Looks to be 5-9' of water at least till we get close...4' Channel flanked by 2 & 3' prior to buoys...ugh.

That looks like a good way to approach Sailors Haven. There is a serious sand bar just east of the line between the #21 can and # 24 nun. Back when I used to take my sailboat over to Sunken Forest, I had to pull up my centerboard when I hit it.

The channel into Sailers Haven is well marked. I was there once a couple of years ago and had no problem with it.

I'm right across the bay at Timber Point. Let me know what days you are going to be there and I'll try to get over for an afternoon.

Thank you Peter. I saw the sandbar on chart, I'll steer far away from that. I'd go inside of that bar if there wasn't for a couple spots marked at 3'.

I reserved Monday - Friday with Dockwa. We may go earlier or later depending on when we are ready and the weather...shooting over to Watch Hill for a bit is a possibility too.

Timber Point is a hop skip n a jump from Sailors...I'll confirm when we get there about meeting up. It would be great to see you again.

Carl yes it’s pretty easy as you said. You are going east of ocean beach to the green can just west of ocean bay park. If you head north north east from there a mile before going east you will be fine. There is a little dashed area that you can see just need to get around that and your fine.

Cherry grove is one “town” east of sailors and is easily identifable by the red and white striped awning if you need a visual.

We had boat packed, organized fueled n ready to go…

Woke up Monday morning to rain, with much more rain the forecast, not the greatest marine forecast either to travel n return in a boat.

Booked a trip to Barbados and we are making the best of it.

Hopefully we’ll creat a long weekend this season to get out there

...oh marine forecast wasn’t the rain issue so much, but started with small craft advisories, windy and high gusts with seas to match. Travel times seemed ok, but a little outside the window or a forecast less in our favor can make a nice few day trip into an ordeal. Bertram or not.

That’s too bad but nothing wrong with Barbados. If you make the trip later let me know. I’d love to pop out in the ocean and parade in with you. Make sure you use dockwa to make a reservation.

Yes, I'd make reservations through dockwa...again. The thought is having the guys close the shop for me so we can run out early on a Friday, returning Sunday. I'd prefer during the week, but beggars can't be choosy I'm told. Just need the weather, work, schedules and space at marina to align.

Yes, I agree, there was nothing wrong with Barbados. Great water, fantastic people and lots of sun.
