Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
There is a big "WOW" factor there! Very impressive
I just am not a big fan of outboards and fishing for fish that fight. Just my useless opinion...
For $4.5M it does sleep 5....smh

It took 36 hours for the owner to realize this may not be the right boat for them...
I have stood by saying gasoline in boats is not a problem for me provided all the precautions are taken...but 1700 gallons of gasoline does have me thinking that is an awful lot of gasoline. That said, Frank you are right it is a WoW factor and very impressive. I'd love to take a ride on one...but have a feeling I'd be done after the ride. Just not what I want in a boat...I love CC's, but for the ease of cleaning, easy to fish all around, easy to handle, being out in the open with nature.
In any case, I hope the new owner enjoys and wish nothing but the best for them.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Can you imagine what kind of money the guy must have to drop that kind of money then just turn around and sell it right away. Can not believe he did not test it out before buying or perhaps he had it designed and built.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Tony,
In the summer as I wake up in the morning I see a monster 45ish RIB with three or four mega outboards approaching the dock with the aim to tie up, do some chores and leave.
To make the long story short, this was a tender from a mega yacht that had anchored out in the bay and the two skippers in uniform had just come out to throw the trash. All this in a 2+ million RIB.
So there you have it, this 60 foot CC guy is just a couple mils richer than my guy,...no big deal!

The other possible thought is it was bought to play with and flip. What's a new one go for and how long is the wait...
Hey some people buy paintings for more than that and just stick them on their wall to look at them...and get this, some of those painting are not even new, but old ones.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
It took me a while to realize that these ultra high end items are not geared at all towards us.
These are not geared toward the wealthy guy down the block, these are geared toward the people with a net worth over a few hundred million or even a billion+. The guy with private jet and/or helo. The guy with a $40mm house and a $100mm yacht. Crazy money people, enough money where this is just a toy. The same as us buying a 13ft Whaler.
I would look at these things and think that is just crazy to spend that money but that is only because I am at the bottom looking up. I heard a great saying the other day "I am much much closer to being homeless than I am to being a billionaire."
It is hard for me to fathom how much money you would need to have to be able to afford that boat. To me it gaudy and not something that I would purchase but then again, I save my nickels to go boating. I am envious to have that kind of money. I think it could solve a lot of problems.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Do people really hate inboards that much?
There are a lot of benefits to outboards on 35 or less ft boats.
But when you have to have 600 horse x 5 to move the boat to desired speed, i think its time to go back to the drawing board.
But i guess this whole boat is an exercise in what could be done, rather than what should be done.
Nice boat, but not what id spec out, even with endless money

Quite a bit of this wealth was crypto money. They are not quite as wealthy today as they were a couple of months ago.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Ah! the Inboard vs Outboard issue.
They go for the outboards because they can get more speed. They all have a need for speed. These are the same people who say it only burns 100 gallons an hour, then as they get into their Tesla they yell at you who is getting into a 15 year old pick up and tell you to get something to drive that saves the environment.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
This boat offends me in so many ways.
- its homely
- it probably handles like a log with a motor stuck on one end
- only twin beds in a 67' boat?
- too clumsy to use for "howdy" boating around the marinas
- too clumsy for any meaningful fishing
- and oh yes, the fuel consumption
This is an instance of capitalism working at its best in the redistribution wealth from those who have too much (the person who ordered the boat) to those who work for a living (the builders, the outboard manufacturer, the broker who gets to re-sell it, fuel dock operators...)

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
I'm not so easily offended Doug.
I think the boat looks cool, I'd love to go out for a ride in one with the expectations it would handle like a boat of it's size...that being not very nimble.
2 beds...I look at the pictures and see everything but the cockpit being tight. Small walkways and passages, at least relative for the boats size. But I can see two couples and bottlenecks trying to get around inside for overnighters.
Fuel consumption...it's a 67' boat that runs, even diesel is going to burn a ton of fuel.
Can one stay overnight on it, sure,
Can it be fished, sure,
Do I say I wish I had it... definitely!
A quick ride and put her up for sale so I can buy something I could and want to use.
Or maybe keep what I have, just get a paint job, some frames n windows, top off the tank, and invest the balance.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
The biggest question:
Does it come with a trailer?
Don't all outboards come with trailers?
Otherwise no deal.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Ah well, Carl you're right of course. Scots ancestory and native New England crustiness briefly broke through my acquired Pacific Northwest geniality. Its hard for me to see someone splash out so much on something with no definable purpose. I agree, it would be fun to go for a fast run up the coast sitting four abreast on those wonderful bridge seats. But then what? The galley has less amenities than the galley on Amberjack and the dinette seats about the same. AJ only needs 30' 5", two engines and 176 gallons of fuel.
As you, my enjoyment is being on or adjacent to the water. In fact the best part of summer vacation last year was shutting down in the middle of Boundary Pass on a sparkling morning while checking in to USCBP. We watched a COSCO container ship pass by heading outbound and a brilliant orange USCG helo swung overhead on their border patrol run. I think that boat is less about being on the water and more about the features.
I see it has been sold so the original owner is already bored with it and on to his next distraction, maybe a customized Boeing 787. I'll go back to work on my last (I swear, its my last) Amberjack project.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Doug- The boat does not have to be functional as a liveaboard nor does it have to have any purpose but being out of reach of most of the population. It's a toy, a status piece...
Figure the guy bought, had a few hours of fun n done. It's a ton of money, but it looks like a substantial part of it came back to him...or her to be politically correct.
Whatever the case, it is out of my league.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
If all boats lose some 10-20% of their value just because they splashed once, then this guy must have sacrificed some 400-800k...
If you divide this by 36, go figure the fixed cost per hour...plus the variable of course.
Crazy.

Me, I can understand dropping a few hundred grand for a 36-hour, boating joy ride over placing a bet.
Understand it, not agree or endorse it.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Interesting situation that goes against common sense- A lot of these boats actually appreciate in the first 12 months. They do not lose money.
The waitlist for a new one of these boats is so long if you want a new one, owners actually make money by selling an almost brand new one to someone who just wants it instantly and doesnt want to wait.
Freeman boats has almost a 3 year wait currently. People are actually making $20-30k just by selling their spot in line. Crazy world but there are enough people with crazy money that just dont want to wait. They can make more money, they cant make more time.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
Excellent point
Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
I was talking with a few insiders about the new Viking 80ft+ models. The cost on these will choke a horse. All of the buyers have crazy money. The wait is long and a few have tried to "buy" their way to the top of the list but it is almost comical because you cant. All the buyers have crazy money if they are dropping $10mm on a sportfisher so flexing with money does nothing. It is what it is as the boat builders can only build so many and build it so fast. How many 80+ Vikings are built in a year? I would guess less than 5. I have actually heard of people buying an "inbetween boat" while they are waiting on their new boat to be build.
Example: Buying a 45ft Grady White off the dealers lot to use while you wait for your 55ft Valhalla to be built.
It is next level money that I can not fathom. Private helicopter/private jet money.

My friends and I call it "Stupid Money". You have so much money that you can make crazy purchases and it doesn't affect your standard of living. I'll never know what that's like.

Re: Any have a spare 4.2 million
I cannot understand a purchase like that…
But that’s is it, I just cannot understand as that kind of purchase is another world from which I live. Aside from the money that kind of boat is nothing I even aspire to have. I have dreamed about battlewagons, go-fasts even the occasional yacht to just cruise the Caribbean.
But that is me and I can only see from my eyes.
I also look at it from the point of view that this life is not a dress rehearsal and from my understanding the money we have, we cannot take it with us when our ticket to the next adventure is called. Then I have thoughts, well if they want to spend that kind of money on unneeded useless toys, maybe their money is better spent on charity or…. I’m not sure the best word, just now thinking who am I to say how someone should use their money. Maybe they already give stupid numbers away to the right causes. Even if not do I give enough to the right causes were I can judge others. Even if I did, does that give me the right to.
Yikes, I’m getting all philosophical on a boat forum.
Live n let live, hope they enjoy it as much as I enjoy my boat, “ The Best Boat Ever Built”. Last thought, wow, a thinker I am this morning… anyway I wonder what will come of that boat in 60 years…even 20 or 30.

I am actually excited to see those boats in 20 + years.
I have a chance to afford one decades from now. Even if I just get one engine running, I can take 20 friends to the local sandbar 5 miles away at clutch ahead. Lol.
