test my 31 today
i installed my cummins 315 hp in my 31 Bertram 15 years ago so today i went on test run at WOT. to check overall condition and if rpm at full throttle was the same as installation. well she ran at 38 plus with 1/2 tank of fuel, water and everything i normally carry minus fishing rods.

Ah yes, Bob; that last picture is the money shot! Uncle Vic used to say: “There are few things that look better than the smooth, even wake of 31 Bertram at speed”!

BOB
You have a wonderful example of a "Showboat"
all of the thought and time you have put into your boat is reflected in your Bert and it shows.
I would think Richard Bertram would be proud and amazed.

Re: test my 31 today
past posts i have always mention for twenty years i would never allow a marine mechanic step on the boat or give me any advise and this is a cumulative results of that type of thinking., basically they are working on your boat to earn money and that is the part that separate our way of approaching a project. let's
face it taking a week to install a transducer (chirp transducer) is not something he would ever get involve in, but done dead flush with the center line of keel would keep that bottom perfectly stream line.the F/G rudder post was the last streamlining project and cause the boat to turn on a dime as well as pick up a little more speed at the same rpm.

It shows Bob. It is definitely a reflection of your pride and enginuity, looking sharp!
How you describe how you approach every detail on your Phoenix- is how I run my automotive shop. Absolute persistence to attention to detail and pride of workmanship. I hope you and family are doing well and get many more years of happiness!

Bob I had the pleasure of meeting you and talking with you a few different times. I have also spent hours reading your old posts and learning some valuable info that helped me along the way. (Shaft angles, engine placement, weight distribution and balance of the boat) I am only hoping I can see some great results that you have seen. Hope all is well!

Re: test my 31 today
Every year you bring the boat a step further past perfection.
I love hearing that with 15 years of run time on those motors they are still singing the same tune with no problems to speak of.

Re: test my 31 today
carl other than replace salt water pumps with Tony Ahearns specialties no repairs . both engines start on a quarter turn of harmonic balancer and achieve the exact same power from 15 years ago . a few years back the northeast cummins distributor asked to come aboard with technicians. they were quite surprised with results of Zero back pressure and incredible torque curve . "you adjusted the android didn't`t you" oh, oh ----------
