I have sent you a few pictures.
Re: Hunt 14 project has started
A few quick pictorial updates.
Cockpit drain path into bilge.
Chine reinforcement.
Stern Seat position. Intent of curve is to allow for water to flow into the drain path easier.
Enjoy!

Ian,
I am impressed with the quality of work that you have been putting into this boat. I only hope that I can come close in completing my project

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
Looks great, Ian! What did you use on the mold? What is the brown material? thanks

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
The mold was MDF which was waxed. Should have used PVA as well.
For full disclosure, this part didn't come off the mold. I recreated using waxed melamine and used packing tape (plus wax) on the routed round overs.
I was too ticked that this part didn't release, I forgot to get pictures of the melamine mold.

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
I've been there too. Turns out lots of epoxy is good at sticking things together...
Your work looks great, thank you for sharing it with us.

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
on the topic of molds and getting a release
I was thinking of using the space where the old drop down was for a pair of fish boxes. I was thinking of using a large diameter sonotube as a mold to get a tube which could be cut into quarters and act as a corner radius to make the fish boxes easier to clean. I don't expect to get the part off the mold without ruining the tube but don't want to waste an enormous amount of time cleaning up the part.
I was thinking of using kitchen plastic wrap but I don't know if polyester would eat it, I have some PVA, would a few coats do the trick? I'm guessing worst case using some water to get the cardboard to break down would work.
any suggestions?

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
Packing tape worked well for me. Only a very slight ridge thst would be easy to clean up.

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
Thanks everyone!
I am excited to see the boat in the water as well.
Hoping that I can get the bare hull wet soon and simulate some different engine weights for balance at rest.
Enjoy!

Ian,
I got some packing stretch wrap from home depot, 6" wide roll was $8 and it seemed to work good for my part, poly resin didn't stick

Ian,
Any updates? have you made more progress on the project?
I'm wondering about the sherwin williams tile clad product. have you used it on other projects? how is it holding up?

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
I have not made any progress since last fall.
We have sold a house, bought a smaller house, moved, new job, etc.
I am planning on towing the Hunt to Michigan from Ohio this weekend and seeing if I can fit her in my garage.
I am itching (no pun intended) to get working on her again.
As for the Sherwin Williams, I have only ever read great things. I do not anticipate any issues once she is in the water.

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
I am reading about it and folks state that it is high VOC. how bad was it??
I have my boat shrink wrapped and don't want to uncover it until I have the deck down and glassed. I cut a hole in the front of the boat shrink wrap and between the door and lifting the plastic in the transom area as well as setting up a fan in the bow opening, it creates a cross breeze.

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
I have used the Sherwin Williams before and its ability to stay in the water is not as good as Endura. The Endurance is able to stay submerged for 3 months, the Sherwin Williams is only good for one month from my understanding. No problem if you are on a lift or in and out regularly.

The Communist state of Massachusetts thinks that Tile Clad paint is unsafe to be used by its citizens and has outlawed the sale............ the local retailer won't sell it to me.
on to the next option

Re: Hunt 14 project has started
Rod - I think the Tile Clad he is referring to is different than the topcoat you are referring to.
The Tile-Clad is an Epoxy paint designed for the inside of water tanks. Designed for complete submersion.
KTM - Go elsewhere and buy. For bilge it is really nice. Shiny, will clean up very well.

PPG Americoat 385
2 part epoxy, 2 gallon kit is around $100-$150 bucks. This is an industrial grade paint that is immersion rated. Only comes in white. Works on polyester or epoxy. Data sheets online. BTW>> I like it A LOT lol.
