3.0 TKS oil leak

Post by Matt Shackleton »

Hi all,
Just got the recently restored B20 into the water and have an oil leak. Forums tell me this is most likely the timing cover - corrosion due to leaking water pump. Has anyone replaced one of these while motor is in the boat? It would break my spirit if the only answer is to remove the motor again.

not to be a bearer of bad news but, the timing cover is behind the front motor mount and I do not see any practical way of holding getting at it without the alignment of the motor and the drive being messed up.

You could possibly take the drive off, use some type of hoist to hold the front of the engine up and take the front motor mount off and get at it that way, it would be a pain to work on if the motor was "loose" but you might not have to take it out of the boat.

Time wise, if you already have to take the drive off, it might be faster to just take it out of the boat and do the work.
