I am repowering a 28 Bahia mar.was wondering if anyone can tell me about the pro's and con's of the larger aftermarket rudder's ? boat run's horrible on one engine.

There are really no cons. They allow you to turn yygge boat on one engine. Makes the world of difference.

The only negative I have heard is th at on the 28 if you need to pull the props you may need to drop the rudder. Not really a big deal just one more step.

I aggree on Stuart propeller, Ed makes all the struts, rudders shafts for the local boat builders, Merritt, Rybovitch, Willis and understands the dynamics of propulsion. He has made 40 plus sets of 31 Bertram rudders ,he made my 3rd set. Bobby soles sold his business 10 years ago to an investor. My 42’ use to wonder at slow speeds and one day when my boat was out of the water for a bottom job he walked by and commented on the design and ask if I had control issues. I have prop pockets and he explained the dynamics, new rudders , no more steering issues or turbulence in the supposed clean water the Capt’s demand when trolling
