Re: Deck Replacement
this is not a hard job however you have to pay attention to the hatch cut out because that cut out is your hatch cover .the key is to purchase a 1/8" carbide cutter for the router and use a guide two straight and one made for the corners.i use coosa 3/4" blue .here is the completed job.totally bullet proof with slam hatches and continuous 316 ss piano hinge drilled out with screws set in epoxy.these hatches are abused and stand up to over use perfectly over the years.the entire bilge area is exposed from engine cover tp inside transom wall with hatches open.i use removable insulated kill boxes full depth from sole to bilge .

Re: Deck Replacement
my step one would be a little more difficult because i have no side panels and use a piece of Azak 1/4 " thinner then sole as a water run off to scuppers.also made "key" in Azak keep deck in place (there are no screws in port and starboard piece held down to floor stringers with UV 4000 . center is bulletproof with 2' x2' titanium backer for chair.with rabbit joint edge for adjoining pieces and screwd every 4". to start trial fit the 3 pieces to your existing sole leave room for F/G build up. one layer of 45 degree Biax with a layer of vail.bottom is one layer of cloth follow by one layer of Biax. with ribs or stiffeners (made from coosa cut off as a rib front to back).

Re: Deck Replacement

Re: Deck Replacement
Bob how are you attaching the AZEK to the hull sides? Are you tabbing it in with Epoxy?

Re: Deck Replacement
tony one fabulous discovery i found building this boat was the perfect match between 3m-UV4000 and Azak brand pvc. board. there is a small seam of UV 4000 between the hull side and Azak insert for both flexibility and waterproof joint that can be remove if i needed by first removing the deck first with small then large pry bar (i added troll valves after i built decks and had to remove port and starboard side of deck).the center piece is dead level and both port and starboard piece are on a skew toward Azak insert piece for drainage.

Bob
Thanks. I was thinking that epoxy might not stick to AZEK. Glad to hear 4000 sticks. Helps me with the building of my Filet table next year, and how to improve the water flow out the scuppers on the boat.

Bob,
Do you have any pictures and explanation of how you made the kill boxes?
Thanks,
JR

Re: Deck Replacement
Fyi, I think axek is a brand name of pvc board which can be epoxied to most surfaces ,other than starboard or polyethylene / polypropylene type polymers
Re: Deck Replacement
marlin you are correct on your post. Azak is by far the best of the pvc. boards available .when using the many configuration of moldings available for trim on your boat there is no substitute, either Azak brand or don`t bother because the Azak brand makes a solid pvc. molding unlike the soft goo inside the other brands.can be used with heat to conform to trim around windows.
i don`t have photos of kill box construction but i will photo the completed project and post .a rather unique approach for a kill box on a 31 Bertram taking advantage of 24 degree dead-rise.
