Sanibel island
Hello, winter is coming and it's past time to find and make reservations for a warm place for 2 weeks. The keys priced us out this year and the near future. Looking at Sanibel Island any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance Russ

Re: Sanibel island
I assume your not taking your boat! Only marina would be Sanibel Marina.
I reccomend trying www.vrbo.com. Lots of weekly rentals there.

Russ,
If you go to Sanibel watch your speed real good. The local po po likes to give tourista tickets out.
I was 1 mile over the limit and got nabbed. Never been back.
Look into Captiva Island.

Russ:
We bare boat chartered a Grand Banks out of the Sarasota area went down to Venice, Captiva, Boca Grande and Sanibel. Great trip worth trying some day. Obviously, you get to see different places and are boating along the way, which is a double win for me in the winter.

Russ,
The last time I was over there they had a hefty toll going over the bridge, like Bruce says the local cops will give you a ticket in a heart beat, especially with out of state plates.

That's a shame...kinda kills the desire to go. I've been a big Randy Wayne White (Doc Ford novels) fan for years and wanted to check out Doc's backyard.I was 1 mile over the limit and got nabbed

On SAnibel, the only hotel I know of is the Holiday Inn. I was there about 10 years ago so can not attest to how it is now. After the Holiday Inn, the only other rentals are Condo's.
You can try Captiva, there is a big resort up there.
I really liked Sannibel, but like every one says, the toll is tough if you go on and off.
One other thing, watch your credit card. I had my number lifted at one of the fine eating establishments.

It's been many years but the south seas plantation on Captiva was really a nice place. There is also a really good guide for inshore fishing named Ozzie there.

Thank you one and all for the input. After looking into it further. We have decided to return to Cheeca lodge. we had a great time there last winter. What made us look into other places, was that they had raised there rates. I'll sell a kidney and we'll go earlier. thanks again, it is amazing how much information is on the site....Russ

Re: Sanibel island
South Seas Plantation, is the name of the place I was thinking of also. It was wiped out by the Hurricane that went through Captiva. It was being rebuilt in when I was in Sanibel in 2005. I believed it re-opened late 2005. Looked like a really nice place.PeterPalmieri wrote:It's been many years but the south seas plantation on Captiva was really a nice place.
