Anchor Size - B25

Post by CamB25 »

What size anchors are the B25 folks using?

I have a Danforth 12H that came with the boat (probably the only part that will be re-used!). The Danforth/Fortress style works very well on the sandy bottoms in North Carolina, but the 12H is going to be too heavy for my first mate (wife). Fortress FX-7 or FX-11 will be lighter.

I'm building an anchor locker in the bow to stow the anchor vertically. It will be sized for the 12H and should fit the Fx-11 or Fx-7 fortress models.

According to the mfg sizing charts, I could use the Danforth 5H or the Fortress Fx-7 and keep the 12H onboard for heavier conditions. Your thoughts?

thanks

I have no idea the size that is on my boat. Probably should know. I'll check next time i am at the boat. Mine holds real well with about 15 foot of chain on the front of the rode.

Joe - your video prompted my post. I was trying to zoom in on the anchor to guestimate the size!

Cam same here I haven't the foggiest what model Danforth I have. It rarely leaves the deck but does hold well again with about 10 feet of rode. I'll look tonight and let you know its at home in the barn getting ready to head to Lake Michigan on Friday for some Salmon and trout.

I do know I bought it at Wurst Marine based on length of boat. The bad news is the chain is bigger than the side hole on the fore deck fixture and the cap doesn't shut tight (which pisses me off) so you may want to check that before making the rode or buying it..........

Cam, I'm using a Fortress FX-16 on my B31, with 30 ft. of chain. I don't think you can go wrong with these anchors, they are light and strong...Russ

Mine is a 13. If I remember my thinking I wanted what was recommended and one step more. They said 12 and went with 13.

Thanks, guys. Looks like I will go with the larger Fortress FX-11 for the bow and the little brother for the stern. I checked my old Danforth and it has a broken weld, so that one is now lawn art!

Cam,
Have you seen the aluminum fortress? It grabs incredibly in sandy bottoms but it's sensitive in the rock and might bend. You save a lot of weight though. It's incredibly expensive too but for sand its perfect. I recently used a 6kg one and couldn't undo it. I'm glad youre back on your project. Good luck!

Thanks Yannis. The Bertram is back in my driveway...neighbors are loving it I'm sure. I've redesigned and fabbed a new "curb" for the center console cap. The old one was way too tall and uneven. Glassing has been almost impossible in this heat. I am on the boat at 5:30am on glass days to beat the heat and get some work done before I start my paying job. Grind in the evenings in between thunderstorms. This summer has been brutal!

Cam

Just tell the neighbors that is better to have the 25 in the driveway than a Camper with flat tires.
