Boat shippers
With a lot of regrets, but also many fond memories, i sold the Shearwater today. Part of the deal is that ishe needs to get shipped to Fort Walton Beach, Florida from Rhode Island. Does anyone know of any shippers they could recomend. Got the name of one from Bob H, but am looking to get a couple of quotes. I will remove the tower, but it needs to go with the boat, so it needs to be someone that can handle the boat and tower in one load. Want someone reliable...not a cowboy.
All the best,

You might try Uship. I've had pretty good response there.

Gif,
I am sorry you sold her, though I know why you did. I also know you well enough to know that a) We will still see you on the water and b) you will still be here!!!
Best to your bride,

Re: Boat shippers
Sad day in so many ways. After much prep shipped Shearwater yesterday. Tower and boat on trailer headed for Florida. Went down to the dock to just hang for a few minutes and collect my thoughts. By the time I got back to the parking lot, there was a buzz going on about a boat stuck on Route 1 tying up traffic. shearwater did not make it very far. Apparently with the trailer length, the trailer belly landed. Went down to see, but could not watch this show...too painful. Apparently they got things freed up and underway. Went to work and got a call around 4. "There's been an accident"....can't tell you how sick I felt. Shipper made it about 2 hours south before he had to jack up the rig to avoid another car.....Shearwater slides up into the tower and off the blocks. Hull holed by tower and stunts. From what I heard today, it may be a "total" after appraisal. I am sick over this. Anyway, may be good salvage boat project coming on the market soon. Stay tuned for coming attractions.

Gif, That really sucks...like Capt Pat said hope they have good insurance. The guy who moves Resolute has dozens of stories about being cut off, he said people don't realize that you just can't stop on a dime, no consideration. Keep us posted. BH

Re: Boat shippers
That has to hurt...look at the bright side you never lost a moment on her because of this...the real shame is the new potential owner lost out on a great boat and better times.
I know my dad would have been sick as he went down to Florida just so he could enjoy her down there.
As to the coin...I hope your shipper has great insurance.
Still, hate to see them leave that way.

Re: Boat shippers
I took a ride to Mendon today and saw Shearwater, a sad sight indeed. Gif had oh so carefully packaged her up for the trip labeling everything for the new owner. She slid forward over 8' after some dipshit driver cut off the truck, then decided she needed to make a left turn leaving truck driver no where to go, I forwarded a bunch of pics to Gif, three good holes in her, strut stuffed through bottom, shaft plucked out of transmission, rudder and both props gone, tower flattened, pulpit and rub rail gone. I will let him post pics after taking in the damage.BH

Re: Boat shippers
Back when she was whole...
After the crash.....still sick over this. I could not bring myself to go look at her, so thanks to Bob H for the images. While the Shearwater was not as "buff" as some of the other Bertrams on this site, she was still my baby and had a lot of miles left in her. Everything on her was perfectly functioning. Pulled 23 knots for about 5 minutes for the survey, so all was working fine. I was really hoping for the new owner to enjoy the work i put into her. When i took her apart for shipping, all pieces and wires numbered for easy reassembly. Even had amanual in progress for the new owner?
PS.....had to break out the Patron last night for a post mortum vigil down on "g" dock...( g13).

Re: Boat shippers
Looks like it can be fixed…….
The initial belly landing episode plus the look of that tire make me wonder about the 'got cut off' story.
Certainly could be worse.

Re: Boat shippers
That does suck but I agree with mean Mike. I think with my minimal experience I could fix the glass. The tower I would scrap. There is no water damage, the wiring and motors are good. Hell, the rudders look like they broke off without disturbing the glass. That is impressive and speaks to durability of the hull. Patch it up and someone will have a lifetime of enjoyment out it.
Re: Boat shippers
i with you kevin that bert with the hole in the side would be something capt patrick would have to do. certainly beyond my ability. total submersion like this posted would take me years! forget the running gear even the hydraulic steering is compromise.a nightmare

That inboard tire is suspect..Sorry it all went wrong for you and the buyer..

I know this seems like a bad time to ask while you're mourning Shearwater, but where did you get those exhaust tips/outlets/deflectors? Did they help with the diesel fumes? The DDs in Crows Nest are a little "fumey" for my better half, and I need to try something.

Re: Boat shippers
I see heavy duty ratchet straps on the tower but see none on the boat to trailer.

Gif, Oh My God... I just tuned in, first time since early June on this post. Holy crap...
Its repairable, though insurance may not want too. Damn... Well, I am truly glad it wasn't yours anymore from a financial perspective. Emotionally however, I understand more than you know.

First heard about this at the Rendezvous, at which you were deeply missed. So sad indeed, but as Mike said, "it could be worse"

Re: Boat shippers
Nice dump job. Boat wasn't that bad that it shouldn't have been on blocks and unloaded properly.
I wonder if the insurance company checked for the load being secured, which it was not, and whether that effects coverage.
