Half Mold 31

Post by Bob H. »

Pulled the first few parts off the mold this week. The mold had a few spider cracks that transferred to the part but with a little sanding they disappear. The blue proving dye shows the areas with blemishes. The builder said he can do the parts as is for $125 or $175 sanded out, plus shipping. I can arrange shipping with a paid order for those interested. The part on the left has been sanded out, the one on the right is as is out of the mold. Thanks to Steve Kelly for locating the mold and Trip Spinner from Beacon Boats for pulling the parts for us. BH

I'm in. I know I'm way down the list because I didn't contribute to buying the mold--I was without a B31 at the time. Let me know whenever.

Thanks-

I am not on the list, but would certainly like to buy one. This might be an opportunity to mark them up a bit to say $250 and send the $75 per piece to Capt. Pat?

Maybe a little engraved plaque with length beam, designer, builder and number of hulls produced and an "in support of Bertram31.com"

I was not part of the sourcing group, but those are my thoughts.

Great idea Rocket I had the same thought about a donation to Capt Pat just wanted the sandbox to help set that number. The plaque with hull numbers would be icing on the cake, I don't have a connection for that but if one of the faithful knows of an engraver chime in. Those who are interested pm me your shipping address and I will get a list started along with the original group who helped purchase the mold. The parts will still need prime and paint to match your 31. Hull # 1 will go to Capt Pat. BH

How about we figure out ideas for mounting. We can do it ourselves, but the best way, Glue it to a piece of teak, mahogony etc. Ideas are welcome.

If we get a little plaque made up, it can go on the wood right below it.

The originals issued to dealers were mounted on (get this) black formica covered plywood!! LOL! They also had a small brass plaque under them. I have an original that has lived a rough life.

Post a picture... Some people might want to go the OEM route... Personally, I'd put it on some nice wood... I wonder, how different are the B31 and B46 hulls?!... Can I reasonably successfully pretend it's a B46?!...

Talked with Tripp today at Beacon Boats, he is taking off for a week and will get a dozen ready when he gets back. The guys from the original list who helped purchase the mold will get first run of parts at above listed price plus shipping. To mount the mold to a finished plaque you will have to bond a few blocks to the inside of the mold. The part is 21" long by about 4" tall. Will keep you guys posted on the progress.BH

I will dig out the list on the weekend ... I think I actually posted at one point on the site.

Steve, I searched the sandbox post and found the original list who chipped in for the mold, most have posted above, 15 guys helped with the purchase. I will haveTripp make the 15. If you guys can let me know if you want sanded or right out of the mold. Here is the list so far: 1. Steve Kelly (?) 2. Ray Wicklund (u) 3. Mike Kennedy (s) 4. Craig McCarville(s) 5. Harry Woods (s) 6.Charlie Johnson (s) 7. Leo Mauricio (?) 8. Mike Ohlstein (?) 9. Ian Upton (?) 10. Tommy Drake (?) 11. Russ Pagels (s)
12. Bob H. (u) 13. Luis (?) 14. John - whaler (u) 15. Gert (?)
u unsanded right out of the mold, S sanded, ? Need to let me know
The rest will be on the second run, about ten so far, just need to let me know sanded or not. If each of you can drop me a pm with your mailing address so I can get the final $ with shipping, when we get to the point that they are ready to ship if you could send me a check for the $ I will get the part shipped to you Asap.
Capt Pat will get the first one sanded out on the house.
I'd like to send Capt. Pat some $ for each order but will leave that up to each guy, I think 31 would be a fitting number.
Trying to keep the cost down so each Bertram brother can hang one on the wall.
