A first for my 31 bertram.i set thermostat on heat and the cabin went from 60degrees to 68 in 5 minutes much faster then 78 degrees to 70 on a/c cycle. What the hell if you have it use it .nice to have lunch in the cabin offshore and get out of cold wind another reason why I dislike that center console I drive.

Not bad on land but you can feel that cold wind offshore if you were in the open.plenty of bait fish out there hopefully bass will be here in two weeks or so.

Ha,ha,ha,you forgot I snowmobile in -20 degrees weather in Indian lake ny.i love cold weather but not 50 degrees in tee shirt with 30. Knot winds .love making hot coffee in the morning with fresh bagles for the crew while my son takes over the piolting. ------ growing older with style.

Bob one of the few advantages of having the original windows is solar heat, my cabin was very comfortable. Family of 8 including a 2 year old and my wife who's normally cold in the shade in August were very cozy in the cabin yesterday. An inverter so I can get a Kurig would be a nice touch, also an electric head with freshwater would be nice....

Pete that Kurig is the answer to a boaters dream.hot chocolate for the children,tea for the bride and coffee pot spills or stale coffee is never going to be a problem.i need two just to stay awake coming back from offshore and two in morning to wake up at 5am going there. Sit back ,set auto pilot and enjoy a cup of java what's not to like!.i would never own a boat without a fresh water electric head . Nobody can comment unless you had both.sometimes the boat cabin is locked for a week and you get to the boat open the cabin and it is fresh as a daisy. Effluents go directly thru main bulkhead (in liquid state due to built in macerator) to holding tank along inside of hull on starboard side of engine compartment.

Having moved sailboats from MA to the Caribbean in November often (most boat Insurance policies say you can't go offshore until the end of hurricane season, which is often defined as 1 Nov) I too hate the offshore windy cold. Have you ever been in a snowstorm 150 miles offshore?

Our sailboats didn't have generators so hot food was at a premium, but with a propane or alcohol stove a cup of hot water was fairly easy to come by. One particularly cold night I came up with a refreshing hot drink using what we always had available... Try this.. and each time you do you will remember me...

To a cup of hot water add one spoonful of instant coffee, plus one spoonful of cocoa mix, plus one spoonful of artificial creamer. Add sugar to taste.

Warms you, and provides you with a nice energy boost.

Thanks Bob I've got lots of other issues beyond a fresh potty.. That being said it bothers my wife so it is working it's way up the list. I generally go down to the boat at 5am on a day I'm planning to go out or the night before. It's not easy to run through a check list with a 2 & 5 year old asking if we're leaving yet. I do a little freshening up of the head while I'm at it.

I put a lot of planning and researth and decided on a 10,000 btu. Turbo ,stow away ,reverse cycle cruiseair .will maintain 68 degrees in 90 degree weather.

Spent more then my share of night fishing for bass with dad under the VZ bridge, in December, with one thermos of the best tasting coffee and hot dogs heated on the exhaust manifold. A true feast for two.

I tried to imitate Pete and Charlie so I cast my new fin- nor offshore spinning reel ( much to big for bass) and try to snagged a bunker instead snagged a shark and got it to boat before breaking off. Everybody laught typical Bob a million bunker and you snag a shark.

What's so different with a fresh water head?
I have a sea water electric one and it does its job fine.
Now, if you told me an electric PLUS manual head I'd say YES, as I dread the moment that the simple electric will stop and... well, I'd rather stop here!

When the salt water sits between the through hull and the head in the hose, the organic stuff in the water rots and dies (I think that's what happens). When you pump the head that water stinks. Using water from the fresh water tank eliminates that issue.

I was talking about water coming into the bowl not exiting (Charlie). Sea water - Thru hull - stinky water in hose - bowl. When that water sits in the hose it smells (smalls) for the same reason it can smell during low tide.

Consider this. It is 5:00 AM and you are heading offshore for a fall mako. Three feet aft of the head are three cans of defrosting chum, a flat of mackeral and another of bunker sitting on deck. How bad can the head smell compared to the bait? What is next for our trusty little fishing boats, Pellegrino in the water tanks?

Consider this, a flying cigar tube built for 16 flying 12 plus two pilots and an attendant on a 9 hour non stop flight where the circulating head was pretty much full the first 3 hours. At that point the cigar tube became a flying Winnebago. At least with the boat you can open the windows.

I longed for the times a freezer would quit on a boat, the bait thaw and sit there for weeks before it was discovered and I had to fix it. Including one time I had to throw the box away, remove all the carpet inside the boat, bleach the wood floors, run an ozone machine for 6 weeks just to be able to go inside without a respirator.
