wire sleeving

i'm getting ready to finish up the wiring, and was wondering what you guys are using for sleeving.
i refuse to use the plastic crap they sell at the auto parts store.

I have made a lot of wiring changes on my boat over the years, removing/revising the existing as well as adding new circuits. I use the split corrugated plastic sleeving whenever the physical conditions allow. I feel this is the best system for the following reasons...

- It can be applied over existing wiring without having to detach either end of the circuit

- Long wiring runs can be installed and branches off the main run can be handled by simply pulling wires through the split where desirable

- I have no experience with the woven mesh sleeving but it would seem to me the installer would have to cut the mesh to length and then feed the various wires into one end of the sleeve and along the sleeve to the other end. This adds another step to the installation process.

Regardless of which sleeve system is used I believe there is a specific requirement that marine wiring should be supported at regular intervals to keep it in place. I am not sure what the suggested support spacing is, but I try to have support every 12" whenever possible. I am sure Pete Fallon, as a experienced yacht surveyor, could shed more light on this subject.

I have no qualms if someone chooses to use the woven sleeving, it just seems to me while the finished product is certainly satisfactory the process installing it is a little more complicated.

I used the plastic split loom also, except you need to make sure it is fire retardant. The last link is a fire wrap hook and loop that looks interesting.
