That's the USS Independence (LCS-2). Built by Austal in Mobile.

I thought she looked familiar....we made a few parts for her.....deck fittings, equipment mounting brackets etc.
Austal is right across the bay

Is there only one of her kind in our defense fleet?.....has another builder built a sister to the Independence??
I hear that she will really "Tote the Mail"

Harry- I think another keel has been laid, but I don't remember specifically. I also think that there is a new RFQ to build three more of these.

I saw a picture of another one named the New York State, made from the steel of the Twin Towers wreckage. Looked very similar.

10 are supposed to be built in Alabama and 10 in Wisconsin by Marinette Marine in conjunction with Lockheed Martin.

She's currently in port in St. Petersburg, FL. Its an impressive vessel. They had it here for the labor day weekend, not sure when it leaves.
