Check valve for gen set

Post by AndreF »

Twice in the last couple of mos the gen set raw water check valve (a gate valve) wouldn't open. Was going to purchase a new one but was wondering if it needs to be in the hose at all? Certainly during lay up the suction would leak and water would flow out of the hose anyway.
Tell me to take the gate out and re-install, please.
I'm not sure but indecision may or may not be my problem.

Andre,

No need for a check valve... Seacock & hose straight to the raw water pump. Before hauling out, turn the seacock off, once back in the water, turn it back on. Same with your main engines.
