Autopilot Pump Question

Post by tds8268 »

Adding a Simrad auto pilot this month and I need some input as to which pump to use, the 80 or 160. The boat is a 1970 b-31 with 6 cyl. Cummins and Capt. Pats oversized rudders, it also has Hynautic Steering. The tech I am dealing with is concerned that by only using a 80 pump the system will not be able to perform the hard-over to hard-over with-in the correct period of time. He has told me that I can save 500.00 by using the smaller 80 pump but his concerned is that it may be borderline too small.

Thanks to all,
Dan

Unless you have a huge ram and lines, the 80 pump is fine on boats up to 35/36' especially with Pat's over sized rudders if installed correctly.
It's the only one I've used on that size boat and the last 31 I did used that pump.

There should be less than 200 bucks between the costs of the two pumps.
