Boat has been there and done that, now I finally own it and need to bring it back to health. Has twin 3160 cats, sounds strong but has couple issues...oil leak and tapping noise in starboard upper end (possibly lifters) Also having problems finding serial numbers on engines..looked everywhere, even talked with CAT....any ideas??!!
Thanks
Farley

Farley,
Welcome aboard!
I'm pretty sure that the serial number is going to be a fairly short number along the lines of 9xMxxxx No clue as to where on the engine you'll find it, but it should be a plate on the block itself, unless someone in the past has removed them.
The 3160 was the predecessor to the 3208, (1969 - 1973), and probably has a power rating around 210 hp. The link below is an eBay listing for manuals if you're interested...

I know of a couple of those engines still running in dive and charter boats - and running well.
