Blue marlin weight estimate?

Quick question. Rough estimate for a 10' long blue marlin, tail to tip of bill?

Maybe 2 feet for the bill. Roughly 5' girth.

Thanks John. I looked at the formula and came close. I didn't want to lie on purpose...

We had a spectacular trip saturday overnight and all sunday.

We ended up catching a Dusky shark (1st time for any of us!), 100lb Mako (too small to keep), 200 lb plus blue shark, 29 mahi, one of which weighed in at a shade over 20 lbs and was the biggest cow I have ever seen at 4 feet long, and the marlin. I measured the length of the marlin because it spent a lot of time at the side of the boat being revived.

Its length spanned from just beyond the swim platform to the fuel fill on my port side. 10 feet tip to tip.

We had hooked a smaller mahi off of a high flyer, and I grabbed the reel thinking we would boat a nice mahi. It was a 50W tiagra. Then the marlin came out of nowhere and ate the mahi. That was when the rules changed really fast!

The crew was perfect. All 9 or so rods were cleared really quickly and when we hit about 1/4 of the line left we were able to finally turn the boat around and make some ground. It took me about 45 minutes, and I have the pictures to prove it. It was awesome!!! What a day. We are all really proud and excited.

I have never caught a fish that large, much less in the northeast canyons. We were @ west atlantis most of the day.

Only downer was no tuna, but hey, that is ok with me on this trip!

Nice fish!
The tuna were in the hudson sunday, the trick was to try to avoid the crowd. We got there nice and early and did our damage and left. The edge was lined with boats by mid morning but we got all of our fish well out on the flats all by ourselves.
