Post by EarleyBird »

Just saw on Facebook, there is a FREE 33 Bertram available to anyone for the taking. Boat is in Waretown NJ. Looks kinda tough. Listed under Johnathan Ramadan. All I know. EarleyBird

It's amazing how expensive something "Free" can be. I was recently offered a Runnaway at a similar price...it just needed everything.

Although a great platform if I was looking for another project.

There was a free Bertram 42 with no engines listed on The Hull Truth classified last week. Over in Galveston Tx. Once they get past a certain point it gets hard to resurrect them.

The fellow that posted it mentioned specifically that he just hated to see another Bertram crushed up in a roll-off box.

I’m close to Galveston and I have plenty room at my shop for yet another non-running motor yacht. But when I started adding up all the costs, engines, paint, divorce, land transport, electronics, etc.. it didn’t look like such a good deal.

On the upside I’d have a v-birth to sleep in when my wife kicked me to the curb.

Two words that should absolutely never be used together are "Free" and "Boat".

Hahaha, even divorce is a potential boat cost !

Very funny Danny. Less expensive than paint or engines, more than land transport or electronics. Have you been through this process before that you know the costs so well?

LOL, Need to keep those cost estimates accurate guys.

Amberjack, No I haven’t priced out all the options, just listed them arbitrarily.

My sweet bride has put up with my boat silliness for 42 years and counting. Mostly she’s pretty good natured with the broke-azz boats I drag up at my shop out in the country. (I have a couple)

But the local un-loved B42 was a hard ‘Nope’. So I’m pretty sure the costs on that one would have been a little too high to bear.

Hope somebody with some get up and go finds both that B33, and the B42 in Galveston, and brings them back to their previous glory.

19 years for us.
At this point i can only conclude it's one of my traits she finds attractive about me.

Man, you guys are short timers. My wife has been putting up with mine since before we were married back in 1986. Heck, 5 months before our wedding she helped my father and I barrier coat the bottom and then paint it. She helped me paint the bottom many times.

She is my helps me get the boat ready every year. Now it is mostly help with waxing and helping with a third hand when needed.

You need to break them in early. LOL

Tony,

Break'em in early, or not consider them as crew at all...

That goes along with being Geographically undesirable.
