Adding Low Coolant Level Switch

Post by Marshall Mahoney »

I plan to add a low coolant level switch to my Cummins coolant tank by welding a 1/4" half coupling to the tank, inserting this sensor and wiring it to my engine alarm. The vendor claims that it is an on/off switch, not a variable output sensor -- will test it when it arrives. Has anyone done this? If so, what manufacturer/model switch did you use? Do you see any flaws with my plan?
Thanks -- Marshall

Marshall,
My oil slignin dump truck motors have those sensors...they tie into the low oil pressure, overheat sensor and tranny temp sensor alarm circut and ring a very loud 6" 12vdc bell that is up on the flybridge all are tied to NC contactor, so if anyone breaks the circuit the bell rings. :-D

Thanks -- I am surprised more people have not added a low coolant level switch. If you get a coolant leak and wait until the high temp alarms sounds, damage could already be done. Maybe I'm over thinking it.
