CABIN REBUILD

SO I DECIDED TO REDO MY CABIN GUTTED IT COMPLETELY
DOING NEW FLOOR BECH SEAT ON PORT SIDE AND COUNTERTOP AND STORAGE ON STARBOARD KEEPING THE FLOOR AS WIDE AS POSSIBLE FOR MORE OPEN SPACE
THEN LOOKING AT MY ORIGINAL BULKHEADS AND PURPLE WINDOWS WHY NOT RIP THEM OUT ALSO
GOING TO DO FRAMELESS WINDOWS WITH TEMPERED GLASS ( GOOD FRIEND OWNES A GLASS COMPANY)
MY QUESTION IS HAS ANYONE MOVED THE ENGINE BOXES OUTWARD TO INCREASE THE WIDTH OF THE CABIN DOOR
EVEN 3 INCHES ON EACH SIDE WOULD BE A HUGE IMPROVMENT WITH A 6 INCH WIDER DOOR
I HAVE CUMMINS AND SEEMS TO BE PLENTY OF ROOM
I WANT A NEW DOOR ANY WAY ILL MAKE A RAISED PANEL DOOR OUT OF MAHOGANY I HAVE LEFT OVER FROM MY KITCHEN CABINETS

Without shifting the engines over which would really screw things up, I think you are going to make the panel in the companion way and the box cover too close to the engine. You would not even be able to put an inch of sound down in there. Measure carefully.

How about this thought, might give you an inch or two in the door way. Move the seat in the cabin up an inch or two and make the door one that slides open and closed to the Port side. I have thought about form time to time. Not serious enough to try and figure out if it would work. You could probably open the door way al little since the bulkhead would not have to support the hinge and latch area.

I have thought about that on my 28 could not make it work because of the curve of the Cabin ceiling/flybridge deck . I don’t know about the 31.

I like that sliding door. I also like the Alaskan bulkhead double sliding doors I have seen on a bertram 25 and other boats.

i build a fabulous sliding pocket raised panel teak door to the head.i used two Anderson sliders (four mini wheels on each piece) on the bottom of the door and made the track out of Epay (three spellings for this wood) . the door works perfectly.

I LIKE THE SLIDIDNG DOOR IDEA I WAS WORKING ON THE BOAT YESTERDAY THERE IS A GOOD AMOUT OF ROOM TO MOVE THE BOXES OUTWARD
ILL TAKE 2 INCHES OUT OF THE ENGINE BOX WINGS THATLL GIVE ME A 4 INCH WIDER DOOR DOESENT SEEM LIKE MUCH BUT ..

And yes 4" wider is a good deal larger on our size doors...about 4" more if my math is up to par.

Nice to know there could, might...should be some room between box and motor...but my side of concern has been the turbo dump on the Port side. I was pretty sure box would fit....but not fit with 2" of space.
If there is, that would be awesome as I've been wondering how I'm getting sound insulation in there.

So that is project "Wider Door". Seems to have grown a bit from a little trim here and a little wider there.

Regarding the wider door----I am pretty sure the motor boxes that Cabrara sold with their decks had smaller (width) boxes to accommodate the inline diesels.

tony ive done it all myself I do have a fiberglass guy in my building that has told me how to do it so without his help it would not of came out so good

Looks Great! The boat I'm looking at has a bench seat to port and the counter redone to stbd. Opening up the choke point will make passage a bit easier for sure.

I think read somewhere that was supposed to be a no no as a parent. And unlucky for me, both kids are taller and bigger for so I guess I'll be the one fetching.
