Struck Reinforcement Question

I have made two 40" x 20" strut reinforcement pads that I will be installing per Capt Patrick's Building Tips. Most of the pictures I have seen in searching past threads show the backing pads with the corners clipped at a 45 degree angle on the fore and aft corners on the deepest part in the bilge of the pad. What is the reason for the angled cut there and how big does that cut need to be? Is that to relieve the pressure on the backing pad that would be created by the angle of the hull bottom?

I would assume its for an easier application of the glass sheets and the elimination of air pockets in the sharp corners.

Yannis is correct. It allows a smooth transition for the cloth. I don't think the angle is critical, just so it is enough
