1 3/8 Aquamet shaft

Post by Hueso »

I may need two 1(3/8) aquamet 22 shafts of at least 88.5". What would be the ball park price for the two (not including shipping)?

I believe I paid $1,500 for mine, but that was 12 years ago.

My 1 1/2 at 83 inches I got a deal on at $1,200 in 2008. Mine came from someone who started a repower and did not finish.

You may be looking between $3,500 and $4,000. I know they are not cheap.

Mine are the original's not sure if they were aquamet 22's back in 75. But they are only 83 inches. Are you sure yours are 88?

Tony:

It is for a Yanmar 170 setup in B31. Old engines were Crusaders with Borg Warners. Old shafts will not be long enough for the Yannies. We measured the length of the shafts of another 31 with Yannies 170 and it was 88.5. I do not know if you can play with the engines (move them back for example)?

Capt. Pat would be the best to answer this, but I think those engines are pretty light. Moving them back may actually help you. It will give you more room up front against the bulkhead and it will also shift the center of gravity to the rear a bit. I remember reading one time, the further back you can set the engines the better off you are.

The Capt. is the best one to answer that.

Yes tony very very important especially with any motor less then 1100 pounds ( boat was balance with a big block and cast iron gears) a light weight 4cyl engine will kick the sh- t out of you in anything above 3' waves .you either put 600 plus pounds of balast in cockpit or set engine back further .dramatic differance ( law of levers formula) . I have spent count less hours experimenting using the travel lift with one strap to check balance. Last week we went to offshore wreck at 25knt. In 3 to 4' waves very steep .we left inlet with 32' mako, 30? Regulator and 32' yellowfin we also met up with 40' ocean .after 20 miles they were completely out of site .they radio they would meet us later they were taking a beating from broaching seas.perfectly balance she will ride slightly bow proud and stay on top of the waves at 25kts.
