F'glass (centek) elbow repair?

Post by John F. »

Like I mentioned in my exhaust help post, the elbow is cracked or partially crused right at one of the ends. I haven't taken it apart, so I don't know how bad it is. Right now its only a slight drip every few seconds.

A new elbow is about $110+. Can these be repaired (epoxied and f'glass?) or should I just get a new one? It seems like it'd be pretty easy to repair.

John,

Yes, you can fiberglass the crack from the inside of the tube, but only use polyester resin. Epoxy will fail under the heat of the exhaust...

2 layers of 1208 biaxle will do the job, or 4 layers of 1 1/2 mat. Be sure to grind back well to get ride of all carbon soot and over lap the crack by 2" either side, (4" wide total + length with overlap).

Also, Centec makes crush resistant stainless steel sleeves...
