Pull Up Cleat installation
I have 6 "fender" cleats from GemLux. I think they are the slimline and either the 4" or the 6".
Over the weekend I did the following for install:
1. Made a router template.
2. Tested in plywood.
3. Positioned and cut the 6 openings.
4. Sealed the exposed core material and bedded the cleats in place.
Installed:

NICE !
Women are like boats ,the older they get , the more money and professional help they need to look beautiful.
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Are your cleats for tying up the boat or for fenders? I ask because I wish I had put in separate cleats to hold the fender lines so one cleat for the dock lines and a smaller cleat for the fender lines. It's an easy project, but once the boat is finished you tend not to go back and start cutting holes again. I should just get on it, I guess.
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Mostly for fenders.
I plan to add additional cleats in the stern for dock lines. I will not add a seperate cleat for spring line so I will end up using one of these for spring.
Really trying to decide if I want pull up for the dock line cleats. I usually do not remove dock lines while underway, so I am leaning towards traditional cleats vs. the hidden ones.
If you want to add the same cleats that I have, I can send you the router template.

Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Very nice, Ian; are they Gemlux cleats? We used Gemlux pullup cleats on my brother's Sportsman and they look like yours. I would use them all around as they provide a very clean look when dropped in the flush position.
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Tommy - Actually they are Accon. For some reason I typed Gemlux above.

Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Apply a liberal dose of corrosion x now….
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
What color paint and what type is the hull. It looks great!
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Mike - have you had issues with the Accon cleats corroding? I will dose everything after the non skid is complete.
Awlcraft 2000 - Seashell Green.
It is a standard custom mix. (meaning they have the color code, but not a normal color chip choice.)

Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Ian,
The Accon Pull up cleats are what we used when we were building the 34' Legend in the early 2000's. They were well constructed, what ever you do don't use the spring loaded push button cleats, they last about 8 months in salt water conditions, the springs turn to crap real quick. Use only the pull up type. Spray everything with a good dose of CX.

Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
I was thinking that they were pop-ups and that you should spray the springs like Pete suggested. If they're pull-ups, then probably no problem.ianupton wrote:Mike - have you had issues with the Accon cleats corroding? I will dose everything after the non skid is complete.
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Ian, I think mine are Accons, 6 years old, salt and fresh water used boat. I will take some pictures tomorrow, but I think that they have stood up really well. Never really looked after them at all.
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
These are definately the pull ups. Not pop-up.
Regardless, I will does everything with CX when painitng is 100% complete.
I will also do the engine. If I recall the magic potion mix was 50-50 regular RED CX and mineral spirits.
Does that sound like the right recipe to put into a spray bottle?
Ian.

No, you should use the best low solids lacquer thinner that you can find.ianupton wrote: If I recall the magic potion mix was 50-50 regular RED CX and mineral spirits.

Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
My recessed spring line cleats also have a drain fitting , maybe u don't need it in your application, mine drain into the the 2" drain system I incorporated for all grey water management that runs on both sides of the boat
Re: Pull Up Cleat installation
Marlin -
I do not have drain tubes on mine. They did not come with any and I definately did not have the foresight as you did to have a specific grey water management system.
Would love to see that someday.
Cheers!
