auto pilots revisited
Fellas,
I'm finally ready to buy one. I have about 5"x6" room to flush mount the display. Any input would be appreciated. I don't need anything fancy, just to get from point a to b.
Many thanks.
John.

I have a Si-Tex unit with the remote (no in dash display). SP-80/SP-70 series. Its not interfaced with anything. Point the boat in the direction you want to go, and hit the AP button.
At the time of purchase, it was one of the most economical, yet effective, units. Completely satisfied with the purchase.

Re: auto pilots revisited
If the Simrad autopilot is half as good as the NSS8 I bought -- it is AWESOME! Now I'm thinking about adding a second NSS8 -- its like having 2 computer monitors at work, only better, because I'm not chasing and killing fish there!

I have a Raymarine, its a small display, I love it! I know the AP22 is a great machine.
Just another option.

Call Howard Rock at 252-441-1360. Marine Electronics of the Outer Banks. He likely has a refurbished AP 22 or can get you a new unit. I got the control head for an AP22 from a local capt. here. Howard checked that out and sold me the remainder of what I needed. Best of all, he was helpful, responsive and reasonable, and he actually answers the phone. He'll will tell you what's what when it comes to Furuno. This is the guy that the Oregon Inlet Capts.(and many others on the East Coast) deal with.

Ernest,
I posted the same question a few years ago, and, you told me about your Si-tex...I'm still in the research mode, and might go with the sp80. BBTiller,
I called Howard but it was after hours and he didn't answer...I'll try him tomorrow.
Many thanks, gents.
John.
