Head
Hi There. I am tryig to put in a head in my B31 Sportfish. I want it to be simple and functional. I was thinking of installing in the front cabin?? What is your recomendation and what is a good and simple mechanical head to use. What else do I need to buy?? Macerator pump??
Thanks,
JC

JC-
I replaced the electric head in my 31FBC with a Jabsco manual head--about $125-$150. It has worked fine for 4 years. There's very little to it. Mine goes right into a holding tank, and all I have is a pump-out hose. Overboard disposal is a really bad thing here on the Chesapeake. Hope this helps.

My Sportfish had the original head in the v berth. During my rebuild this winter, we added a holding tank to make it legal inshore. It was a difficult time consuming job. I will send you pictures of the set up. We used two thru hulls (which were there) and had to add a waste deck fitting and a vent, vented loop, etc. I used a six gallon holding tank that fits under the v berth in the very front of the V, just in front of the rope locker. If I had it to do over I would get ten portapotties and throw them out everytime someone used it and still be thousands ahead (no pun intended).
Harv, A few more details would be appreciated. I have a Jabsco self-contained recirculating unit in my B28. Well its getting old, has been discontinued, the electric motor burnt up in the fall and I suspect their may be timer/switch issue at the root of it.
I'm sure the addition of a marine head and a holding tank would be a major PITA. But a self contained unit at $350 has possibilities...

Phil, harv where did you get your head from ???
It was already on the boat when I bought her.
Steve, with the exception of shorter feet, that is the same exact unit as mine. The last time I checked them was about 2 or 3 years ago, when I had a minor problem with mine. I thought the price was lower, $499 seems like a good price, There's a place by me in Long Island called Freeport Marine and they list it in their catalog for $519. What's nice is that you can plumb it for an extra holding tank, dockside pumpout, or overboard discharge. It's a nice unit, and with my big fat ass, comfortable too.Harv, A few more details would be appreciated. I have a Jabsco self-contained recirculating unit in my B28.
