Re: B20 sportsman
I think there are about 6 of them.....
Re: B20 sportsman
I know where there are 6 genuine 20' Sportsman's, but do not think any for sale. So there are more than 6 out there for sure, but not many more.
Re: B20 sportsman
I understand 99 were made....
Re: B20 sportsman
I heard the same thing as Michael: that 99 were made. A friend bought one in the early 70s and the factory relayed that account to him.
Re: B20 sportsman
Todd, the B20 Sportsman is a pretty rare thing that does not seem to come up for sale very often. In the past 10 years since I have been noticing them, I have seen about 4 or 5 real ones come up ranging from $2,500 in 2011 (tried to buy her, but it was gone) to 38,000 for a nicely restored one. I think some have asked for more, who knows what they got.
There are quite a few out there that have been converted from moppies into Sportsman, if it has an outboard, that is very likely a conversion from a moppie. Nothing wrong with that, in fact may even be better than the factory original, but it would not be a true sportsman if that is what you are after. Another neat old, deep v cc is a Donzi St. Tropez, but it ain't a Bertram.

Re: B20 sportsman
How do you ID an original ?
Re: B20 sportsman
I believe they were made two years: 1968 & 1969; but I may have seen one produced early in 1970. Give your email address and I will email photos of the original Sportsman that my brother owns and you can compare to anything you run across.
Re: B20 sportsman
I think, based on a previous thread about B20 numbers, Rocket pasted that if the number begins with 204, its a sportsman. 201 is a moppie, and 206 is a Bahia. The hulls are all the same. Unless you're really set on a sportsman, you can turn any of the B20 hulls into a center console. Sportsmans seem to be worth a lot more than Moppies and Bahias. You can pick up a Moppie or Bahia bare hull for $500 to $1000.
1968 B20 Moppie - Hull # 201-937
1969 B31 FBC - Hull # 315-881 (sold)
1977 B31 FBC - Hull # BERG1652M77J (sold)
1969 B31 FBC - Hull # 315-881 (sold)

Re: B20 sportsman
I think the easiest identifying factor is the 2 storage boxes on the rear deck, just above the engine. Also the engine box has "wings" which extend out to almost the full width of the cockpit
Also forward there is a raised area/casting deck forward of the center console.
I am pretty sure I have posted pictures on here in the past of a real Sportsman

Re: B20 sportsman
I have a friend who has one in Southern CA. He restored it in the late '90's.

Re: B20 sportsman
The 20' Bertram was made until 1970 or 71. I have a price sheet from 1968. The 20' models were" Baron, Moppie, Hardtop, Sportsman, and Bahia Mar. Base pice for the Moppie with a 160 hp Merc I-O was $5, 630 and a 210 HP OMC was $5,780. The Baron with a 225 HP Merc was $7,545 and with the 225 HP Holman Moody it was $7,195. How sweet it was!
