Bottom Paint COlor opinions

Post by ianupton »

Use will be in fresh water.

Mostly trailer stored, but will spend several weeks at a time in the water, so I am 99.99% sure I want bottom paint.

I think the Nauset 28 in my other thread had black bottom paint. With the picture below, I am thinking White Pettit Vivid.

Will add a chine stripe once the water line is determined. Not 100% sure because of weight changes, fuel capacity increase, etc.

Ian,

My suggestion would be to barrier coat the bottom, hold off all bottom paint until you're loaded with 1/2 a tank of fuel and all of your gear & anyother items that will be kept onboard, launch, mark the true waterline, raise it by 1", haul, and bottom paint to that raised mark. Then paint your boot stripe.

There's just no way to guess acurately where the waterline will be before that initial launch. I learned this the hard way on Buddy Boy...

One of the many things I love about this site is the humilty of many highly skilled individuals in their responses. "i learned this the hard way, ask me how I know, don't make the mistake I made."

Just another compliment to the brotherhood here!

That hull color looks a lot like Awl Grip Aqua Mist, which is we have on 'Island Dreamer". We went with green bottom paint, forrest green boot strip, and gold feature strip.

Plan is to get all mechanicals done fill with fuel and see where she sits.

Bottom paint will be last step. Hull already has barrier coat complete.

I will have to look at the green options. Had not thought of that color choice.

Ian, come have a look at my b25 when you're up next weekend (and don't forget Mike's steering wheel adaptor).
Barrier coated then finished with white vc17.
Been in the water all season the last 3yrs and has held up.
Any fur after a few weeks of inactivity is gone by the time we're to camp.
Anti fouling paint....don't do it unless you're planning another move.
My 2 cents.
