Y'all come on down!

I lived in Beverly, Essex County, MA, just north of Boston for about 35 years.. moved to Wilmington, NC, 10 years ago, especially to get out of the snow and cold. Spoke this AM to a friend still in Beverly who has 20" of snow in his driveway. He said it was minus one degree last night. Here in Wilmington.. it got down to below freezing last night.. snow? Maybe one or two mornings a year.. gone by noon. I live about 3 miles from Charlie J.

People ask me why I chose NC as a place to move to.. I tell them I started in Boston driving south on Rt 95.. and stopped at every Home Depot store I saw along the way.. asking the first sales person I saw if they sold snow blowers.

When the first sales person asked.. "What the hell is a snow blower?" I started looking for property.

It is 46F outside today.. supposed to get up to 66F tomorrow.

Y'all come on down!

From what they are saying, flights are being cancelled in the midwest due to the air being too cold for the planes to fly. So every thing is going to be screwed up for a few days. Drive safely Steve.

Then there are people like me whom pray for a few more single digit temperature days. The bays has nice ice flows but needs those single digit days to freeze solid. ----------- goodby brown algae in the bay and ticks ,mites and other garden critters on land ,the koi pond clears up completely .i feel coftable in the cold north country when wearing the layer system with leather on top for snowmobiling ,I've. been in the desert outside El Paso Texas 105' in the shade horrible dust and sweat rather be snowmobiling with wind chill -30,and I was 20yo. In Texas .differant strokes for differant folks.i cannot imagine sitting in a duck blind in 80 degree temp with shorts on.hunting pigs in Florida 95 humidity with salty sweat blinding your vision ------- no thank you.( perhaps ice boat finally gets launch)

God bless him Russ this ice boat dates back when he was born.before I did any repair I try to do research but could not find any information.boat is definitely oak with iron ( not steel) fittings so I date it around turn of century.i don't have old sail but I imagine it was a early canvass? I will photo if bay freezes enough to use then we will bring to maint. Shop.boat is natural wood no paint ,a real untouch classic.at the turn of century thousand of people use to flock to the waters edge to watch these boats in Sayville and Bellport .the bay has not frozen solid since the winter of 1977. Most of the homes on my block are turn of century and a ice boat was along side the homes in early photo's .

I understand having been raised there . I just could not live all year in that situation ,with the change of the seasons comes the change in my desires.the Bertram is cool for 9 months but when I am hauling it my mind is on hunting .walking thru the forest and the cool air in the mountains ,scouting ,making tree stand ,the hunt then comes winter and that also has a place snowmobiling, sking, football season and building the corvettes .the media is ridiculous lets see 12" snowfall ok take 5 minutes to clean steps then walk down driveway open truck turn dial to four wheel drive and drive to street not even going to shovel driveway what for! I lived in port St lucie never could figure out what the hell they do with all those 4-wheel drives in bumper to bumper on A1A. I had the family with children on blanket at Jensen beach along comes a truck ! On Long Island they would hang him. Public beach ------ trucks what wrong with this picture , I left.

Peter hi,

Is this your boat? My 28 is the same color, I think its awlgrip sky blue.
What bottom color shall I choose to make a nice match? Currently its black and I don't like it so much. Also, the 28 does not lend itself for easy color separation between the sides and the bottom, so you start doing those additional thin lines which complicate the job. I thought of Grey but I'm not so sure either.

Thanx,
Yannis.

PS: Bob's right !! Two meters of snow and freezing cold is always better than hot and humid. Cold you can fight, the other thing is intolerable; sometimes I think that if I had no choice but to live in Florida type climate, I would enlist to the group for that one way trip to Mars !!

I didn't drive, I was driven ..... Greyhound !!
Got home yesterday after a 30 hr ordeal.
Suffice it to say that aside from flyers that had their back against the wall (my scenario) .... the bulk of Greyhound travelers are straight from the trailer park.

HEAT WAVE

Post by Chanse »

Well I was in a motel in Green Bay Mon night 24 below, didn't faze the dedicated smokers whom
were standing outside puffing away nor the stores that all seemed open. As I drove further north the next morn
I was greeted with much more pleasant temps of only 6 below. Now moving into a heat wave, above zero.
All is fine.

Went down to the boat this morning, the river the boat is on is still flowing and not frozen. I'm only 100 feet or so from a waterfall that keeps the water moving. Went over the bridges this morning and a good part of the bay is frozen over. Looking forward to a bit of a warm up over the weekend.

Peter PM me an address I'll send you a couple bags of the best curds in the state. You'll have to use Patrick's "Formula O Squeak" to bring them back from the edge though. Hide them from the wife and kids or they'll be gone in minutes.

Trust me I've tried them from all over the state these are the shit.

By the way I went to college at Point and if you traveled from there to Oshkosh you passed about 2 miles from mi casa. Don't let that happen again without stopping, dinner and drinks on me.

Mark,

My parents taught me well and I would generally decline a free gift, in this case I cannot turn away the best curds, PM will follow.

I have infact driven that, can't remember the road # but haven't been out that way in 5 years now. Not many places around here where the GPS is just a straight line with nothing else around. Point brewery and a couple local pubs were lots of fun. Also have gone north of that area for some trout fishing, dirt roads only marked by letters, wish I could tell you where I was. Pretty campus too.

One time I was in Steven's Point, a number of years ago and the Packers were playing a preseason game in Japan. The entire town was shut down except one bar. Later that week I was in Greenbay when the team was coming home and the 747 was going to land at GB airport it was insanity. Great little mexican place I found that night with real shreaded cheddar on the nachos, could never find it again.
