That is sweet. Now you have to wait for winter to pass! Still hot as hell down here.

Completion for Fighting Angel!
Re: exterior paint finally done
Far from it Tommy, tearing out the deck supports and fuel tank today. I still have a lot to do considering there isnt a wire, hose, light or engines in the boat it's going to be a long winter! All show no go right now
Re: exterior paint finally done
Jimmy, I tried to type "competition" for Fighting Angel because she looks so good just as your other boat did. I knew you have a ways to go to splash her!

Nice, real nice.
Did you find those engines? Not sure what size engines he has, but John Lane from Forked River Diesel & Generator, just got stuck with a used pair. I think they might be Cummins. NOt sure on size.

Pat and I got to visit with Jimmy back when this whole thing just got started on a boat trip up north, still have a t shirt he gave us. What I saw in his shop is indicative of his talent and the results seen here.

Tony, I did speak to him I'm still up in the air on what to get also financing hit a snag "boat is to old for collateral" i came across a pair of 315 Yanmars that only had 300 hours (thanks to Tom Oaks for the heads up) but they were already sold so i'm still looking ......Thanks guys for the positive commentsTony Meola wrote:Nice, real nice.

Jimmy,
If you get a chance call Darrel at Mastry engine in St Pete and see if he can wrangle something out. Mention me and if there is a logistic issue for distributor territory, I might be able to help out on that.

Jimmy,
I gotta ask...
the exhaust ports... How far out did the tube extend on your transom before you faired them? And another if its ok? I love the scupper tube covers on the transom. What diameter tube did you buy? The boat looks great my friend. My hull is being painted this winter, and I want to copy you. I am sorry, but I have to say its the ultimate praise! I swear!!!
Best,
Dug

Great job on both the paint jobs looks sweet, now get some iron and wiring and you will be ready for the early summer bite.

I cannot believe you can paint outside like that without knats ,flys and other critters sticking to the paint along with flying dirt! I had trouble with any paint in contact with the salt water like around top half of exhaust--------for me - imron under water = small bubbles in paint at end of season . Unfortunately I paint last 6' of hull sides every year due to gaff, sinkers, dredges ,and floating Obstacles.the imron blends fantastic with a little clear in it even for a rookie like me.your paint looks terrific you have the "gift"

Doug the 6" oval ports were round, I inserted a 4x4 in them heated and let my car lift down on them until they were oval and put screws in them to hold them until i inserted them through the transom probably about a inch and epoxied them in. The scupper covers i used a piece of PVC cut in half length wise and waxed them on the inside and then laid up several layers of glass, popped them out and glued them on. I'm always thinking outside the box! LOLDug wrote:Jimmy,

Re: exterior paint finally done
Bob I have been using U-Tec 3.8 very similar to Imron (a little more of a high solid product) with great success over epoxy primers. I also cleared the boat mainly because of gnats and small imperfections. I painted with the color coat let cure nibbed it out and if I had too i would blow a little color over a larger imperfection then clear the whole boat. A good set of tweezers became my friend! It's definitely a challenge painting outside especially when you have a $75000.00 down draft spray booth 50 yards away! So I have some buffing ahead but the tent definitely helpedbob lico wrote:I cannot believe you can paint outside like that without knats ,flys and other critters sticking to the paint along with flying dirt! Cool Jimmy! Sounds very cool!
I am going to leave them round, but that is a hell of a way to do it! Got the job done!
We are thinking of buying round fiberglass tube from McMaster Carr for the scupper covers and are trying to figure out the best diameter tube. Did you open up the scupper holes at all? Or did you leave them the same size? What was your pvc tube diameter? That is an awesome way to do it!!!!

Doug, i opened them a little (1/2" maybe) the pvc was 2" and that became my outside diameter.Dug wrote:Cool Jimmy! Sounds very cool!
