Re: Moeller Mechanical Fuel Gauge
I saw them quite a bit in portable outboard tanks before cork floats became popular.
Over time the fingers between the arm and sender wear and will lock up thus rendering the float stuck.
Larger tanks with baffles can hank up a float arm also depending on how its orientated in the tank.
Unless its a small portable tank, use a vertical sender with a mechanical capsule instead of a sender/gauge capsule.

Re: Moeller Mechanical Fuel Gauge
I was thinking of using it in the B31 tank, instead of electric. I thought it'd be the simplest thing, but if it won't work, it won't work.

Not that it won't work, just let you know what I've run into with them over the years.
Just watch your orientation when installing. you may have to redrill the holes to get the float not to hit a baffle or tank side.

Re: Moeller Mechanical Fuel Gauge
Thanks. I'll post whether I try it go Isspro. I bought a cheap Moeller electric sending unit at West, and if I extend the arm all the way down. my gauge reads 1/4 tank rather than empty. I didn't bother installing it, and probably won't. I thought with a mechanical, I only have one thing to break (the unit), as opposed to electric, which has 3 (gauge, unit, wires).

Re: Moeller Mechanical Fuel Gauge
John,
We just installed one on our boat, and, so far, so good. It screwed down right into place, and, it's accurate with the fuel level in the tank. We'll see how it works out in the future. We wanted something simple like you do.

Re: Moeller Mechanical Fuel Gauge
John-
Thanks. Crows Nest has the stock 222 gallon (or so) fiberglass tank. Moeller offers a mechanical unit for a 17" deep tank, and another for a 22" tank. If I go this route, and now that you have I probably will, did you use the 17"or 22" or something else?
