test for ethanol

there is one gas station in the area that sellsl straight gas. I just want to make sure that he's not blowing smoke. the 2 cycle engines on the leaf blower and weed whacker have been in the shop for repair twice and I was told that it was the ethanol .I could not find the post for the simple test. thanks Russ

Russ: I bought this, but you could do the same thing with a Ball Mason jar and a sharpie. Fill with water to the black mark about 1/3 of the way up. Fill the rest of the way with fuel. Shake up and let sit for ten minutes. If the water line rises the alcohol is separating out with the water making it look like the waterline has risen..
