Let the fun begin!

Post by JH_B28 »

Hi guys,

Started my B28 restore a couple of weekends ago.. Here's a couple of pictures of the progress so far.

After: ( going for the original dinette layout)

Started with the engines (Yanmar 4LH-STE) yesterday:

Removed both turbo's (IHI) for rebuild.

I'm taking the turbo's to the local yanmar dealer (friend of mine) for a diagnostic but I fear he is going to tell me to buy two new ones. I don't have much experience with diesel engines but i believe the turbo's are not that bad. The internals look good, the exhaust side is corroded due to the old mixing elbows which are also corroded internally. I would prefer to send them to the U.S for a rebuild or refurbish. Really wouldn't want to spend 4k for new ones so if anyone has any suggestions as to any good place for rebuilding them or buying them rebuilt, it would be very well appreciated!

thanks!

There is a company in Colorado that sells the brand new complete turbo cores (everything but the housing) for $8 to 900 hundred. Google Yanmar 4LH turbos. May be a better alternative to expensive rebuild. Also, gives you another core for the future.

Thank you very much harry! I searched everywhere on google yesterday and found nothing but yanmar dealers and shops in Europe. I'll give them a call & keep searching for other places, preferably in the Tampa area (have family there).

If anybody else knows good quality shops that do turbo rebuilds in the tampa area (or anywhere), please let me know..

Thanks again!
