New Ray Hunt 18 build
I stumbled across this today. I think some of my Canadian friends would enjoy and appreciate.
A fellow in England came across an original Hunt 18 hull mold. Cleaned it up and pulled a hull out of the 2-piece mold.
Good read.
Cheers!
Ian.

Looked great until he put that hideous coaming and porta-potty wheel house on it!!

Re: New Ray Hunt 18 build
In all fairness it was one hell of a nice build and the hull really looks good.

Re: New Ray Hunt 18 build
I would have done something different for the deck, but the hull looks great!

Id love to get a hull popped out of that mold...finished in a more traditional way...that guy does some nice work, the time to make all those molds....wow.BH

Re: New Ray Hunt 18 build
Incredible. I have been looking for a Hunt 18 or 16. I would buy a hull in a flash. His work is first class, as for the deck mold...to each their own, it must be a British thing. Thanks for posting Ian

Nice! I wonder how many hulls could fit in a container?
He used some very light glass in that hull....15 oz total? did I read that right?

Re: New Ray Hunt 18 build
My guess would be 6 in a 40 foot container. Possibly 8 if high cube was used.
I thought the layup was light as well.
Realistically, we would do better buying an 18 foot hull, fairing it to perfection and pulling a mold from it.
I bet with a few orders this could be done...
Cheers!
Ian.
(also, the 20 foot Bertram is far better built then the 18 Hunt was. The Bertram does not has the classic huge reverse chine, but overall the build is better.)

Nice, but if you're interested, there are plenty of B20s that need to be rebuilt from the hull up---and its a great hull.

Re: New Ray Hunt 18 build
Nice. They did good work bringing that mold back.
Like others said- that layup schedule seems a bit concerning. All C.S.M. with one layer of light roving?
Is this because his power is a 70something hp ob, and he wanted to keep the weight off?
Not too crazy about the strakes being part of the hull proper, instead of being laid first, with the hull behind them like our Bertrams... How many guys here have damaged/broken their lifting strakes? It'd be a full on- taking on water/hull breach in that hull.
But, the hull is really nice cosmetically, their mold prep really paid off. Wish they had more of a budget to do better things with it. Would like to see the center console version he mentions a few times, hope they loose the Dusky/Aquasport style bow coaming on "H18 V-2.0".

I don't know what the world may want,
But a good stiff drink it surely dont,
Think I'll go and fix myself...a tall one.

Re: New Ray Hunt 18 build
On the 20, the strakes are the same. They are not filled, nor glassed over.
On the 31 are they filled or glassed over?
Ian.

Re: New Ray Hunt 18 build
Yes Ian, on the B25 and the B31 the lifting strakes are hollow voids with hull glass behind them. They can be damaged and it'll have no effect but to fill the strake with water.
Guess it's pretty obvious I haven't gotten too far into my B20 project now? - Busted.

Sometimes my eyes are bigger than my (fill in the blank). Another Bertram project would cost the remainder of my sanity, life savings, and a marriage!!! Ha!!!
