Shooting Rest
OK, so it's not a boat thing, but.....
I'm heading out to South Dakota at the end of the month and hope to decapitate some pheasants and prairie dogs. Being a NY guy where nothing you shoot at is farther than about 50 feet away, I've always been an off-hand shooter. Now I'm heading to the wide open grass lands and the prospect of taking 250 yard shots at things the size of a walnut. I figured it was time for a 'beanbag' style gun rest.
Wanting to buy something American made, I searched cyberspace for a bit and found this guy....Dog-Gone-Good Shooting Bags. http://www.dog-gone-good.com/index.html
I ordered a few. I haven't gotten them yet, so I can't speak for the bags themselves. I'll be sure to post a follow-up when they arrive.
What struck me was the way that the owner, Don Scott, does business. He doesn't take orders on line. He wants to talk to you. He's proud of his product and wants to tell you about it. I ordered 3 bags, filled and shipped. That's gotta be about $310 to me. The guy WOULD NOT LET ME PAY. "I'll ship you the bags. If you like 'em, send me a check. Otherwise, just return them." It's been a long time since I did business with a guy like this. I wish he built cars.....
Anyway, if anyone is in need of a shooting bag rest, please support this wonderful man.

Re: Shooting Rest
Mike birds are spotty with areas that had late frost and hail and areas where the birds and poult counts were off the charts good this spring! My place is middle of the state 15 minutes from North Dakota and about an hour from quality p-dog splatting! .223 is the choice of my co-home owners I have yet to make a trip for dog hunting but they do a lot of laughing when the describe the red plume that is the view through the spotting scope. Where ya going?

Re: Shooting Rest
You yankee boys are spoiled.
I use a couple of old millbank bags and fill em up with local dirt at my destination. They can also be used to filter dirty water out on the trail.

Re: Shooting Rest
What are you filtering dirty water for?
I'm not sure but indecision may or may not be my problem.

Re: Shooting Rest
When your hauling a heavy barrel 26" long varmint rifle, pack with handloaded ammo for a couple hundred p dogs, there isnt much room for water or food. Creeks, snow run off, etc can be filtered thru the bags then treated for parasites.AndreF wrote:What are you filtering dirty water for?
I met a couple of guys who went trekking around the amazon for 3 months and all they used were millbank bags for filtering their drinking water.
Never cottoned to water you had to chew.

Re: Shooting Rest
Well, we were talking sand bags. If I were going for 3 months I wouldn't pack sand bags. Have those 3 guys been back long enough for giardia to turn up? Takes awhile.

Factory. Federal 55 grain Nosler ballistic tip.
Once I stopped making adjustments, I fired those three and stopped. It was the last session of the day, so there was no more time.

That's terrific with factory. Upper end federal has always been good.
