Forward Bulkhead Replacement

Post by JohnV8r »

I’m trying to figure out how to get the last of the Formica out of Shambala. Can someone please walk me through what is involved with replacing the bulkheads between the v-berth and the cabin in an FBC? Can the deck be supported with the flybridge still on?

Thanks in advance.

John,

Are you looking to just re-do the Formica or apply a veneer? You can remove the old Formica using a heat gun and stiff putty knife or drywall knife.

Heat the Formica, starting at an inboard edge, working about 1 sq ft at a time. The contact cement will loose it's bond with the heat and lift off fairly easily. Once you've got all removed, use a scraper to remove any remaining contact cement, and then scrub the surface with mineral spirits to get the little stuff.

Let it air dry for a couple of days and you'll be ready to apply a new laminate or veneer.
Br,

Patrick
