Re: Live AIS maps
Totally Cool.
Have a look at the NY Harbor and rivers.
That's why I got one.

Looks like Abbie & Holly found a productive spot on the troll SE of Montauk, viewing his track! Very cool

Re: Live AIS maps
I think the systems are not all working from the same data... some just aggregate public sources, some have affiliates who forward their data, etc...
I've found http://www.shipfinder.com/main/defaultw ... arius&tp=0 to work well and provide good coverage for significant offshore distances where other systems seem to loose coverage.

Re: Live AIS maps
There is also a MarineTraffic smart phone app which comes in handy from time to time.

Re: Live AIS maps
For some reason, I don't show up on Marine Traffic, but do on Ship Finder.
Re: Live AIS maps
AIS is a layer available for Google Oceans 5.0 and it has SST and Chlorophyll and you can fly under water to look at the structure and much more.
There is also a layer from TOPP of near real time tracking of many large pelagic predators like makos threshers whales blue sharks salmon sharks BFT elephant seals marlin and some swordfish.
I also plot the tagging locations and capture locations of different species of interest.
Plotting and routing buoy data and wish they would come up with a sail flow layer.
